I have Bird Aeris in medium and while it's a great bike I have never really settled on it.
At the time of buying it I was also looking at a Spitfire. Now I have found one for sale for a decent price. It's also a medium, it's a bit shorter than the Aeris and I think that may suit me a bit better.
Has anyone ridden both or owned both and can talk some sense into me?
I'm no help at all as I haven't ridden both. I do have a Spitfire though and it's great.
Hopefully someone with more balanced advice will be along in a minute...
My advice is balanced as I've ridden neither. Do you want a new bike? I think we all know the answer to that question...
I've had my Spitfire almost four years and my Zero AM for two years less. I prefer the Spitfire's slightly shorter reach and the rear suspension does work really well - very fast, controlled and balanced.
It's nearly Christmas of course I want a new bike!
It's basically bike lust. However if you don't treat yourself once in a while...
Recently sold my Spitfire.
It's a great bike, lovely to hammer along on, I found mine a bit small for me when riding up, perfect size for riding down. It always handled everything I put it through, from Stiniog to Pila, the French Alps, all over Scotland, Gt, Innerleithen, Laggan etc, the peaks, Wales.
If I could say anything, it made things easy and often I'd feel a bit underwhelmed on a trail as the Spitfire simply made it dead easy to ride.
Stuff that I should have been buzzing from after riding left me a bit underwhelmed? Dull, almost, simply because the bike was that good. The bike wasn't dull though. Far from it.
Thats the reason I sold it, now on a cotic soul. Bring the excitement back.
Really like the idea of a Spitfire, but the warranty, back up and demo availability of the Bird is sometimes difficult to ignore, as is the price of an Airdrop.
Banshee warranty is as good as it gets, had a few problems with mine & even a simple FB message gets a reply asap & with a solution.
What's not working for you about the Bird? Could a change of shock be an option?
Assuming it has a Monarch, something like a CCDB Air could transform how it rides for not too much outlay (secondhand).
I think the Bird is a bit long form my tastes. The bike is great, don't get me wrong there is no criticism, its just I think I prefer something a bit shorter.
