You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Am currently making a romantic picture in my head that it would be nice to clock up some proper xc miles, on a dedicated xc bike, to make use of rubbish conditions by getting fitter.
Got a 26er hardtail, a charge blender, it's ok for bimbles, not overly efficient, a ball ache if im honest, but very capable in the peak rough.
So looking for something a lot more efficient, but still very capable, would your average "xc" 29er be a good way of going about this. I understand that 29ers feel very stable and confident, a 100mm 29er will feel more like a 130ish 26er, what's everyones experience of this?
I also do tend to enjoy doing bunny hops, manuals and general tom foolery on the way to stop the mind going numb, out of the question on an "xc" 29er?

All of the above are impossible on a 29er.
You might just get away with the tom foolery on one of them newfangled 650B's though.

OK, OK, smart arse, is frolicking on the way around on a xc 29er a pleasure or a chore?
No they're no good for frolicking either.
they do fire roads....just about.....although the wheels may explode at any time
They're crap in the Quantocks too.
and don't forget people will just think it's some crazy new Fad and your just some kind of tattooed attention whore.
😆
for hardcore 29er tom foolery look at something like a canfield nimble 9 or yelli screamy stick a 100-140mm 29er fork in and get rid of the 26er hardtail as they will spank it.
For more general 29er-ist duties and going very fast but still having fun, anything like a singular swift, salsa el mariachi, niner SIR. all have great geometry work well with 100mm fork and ride brilliantly
your just some kind of tattooed attention whore.
damn it....I'm a stereotype!! 🙁
Tazzy.
You do talk some shit sometimes. 😆
Everyone knows the Yelli's only any good for XXXC. 🙄
no, we are all stereotypes Taz
They'll never catch on .......
Nothing wrong with a 29er hardtail.. Keeping my 26 full suss tho'
I say try one.. FWIW
Hope not^^
no, we are all stereotypes Taz
oh that's all right then, i can point and laugh at you....bloody attention monkey! 😆
I only have 29ers and wouldn't go back to baby wheels.
Ah, but I have no piercings though
Yelli's only any good for XXXC.
tripple X what like sexytime riding in leather chaps? or the the crap film with van diesel in it? 😉
Ah, but I have no piercings though
neither do I, all the holes are part of a drastic weight weenie strategy!
Leather chaps FTW.
Weight weenie...pah you have a Jones and a gearie, no weight weenie for you young man
Why do people always bag on 29ers!!

nah, got more frames than I know what to do with...and it's a gearie!!
I rest my case 😯
Looks like you need to up your waxing program Taz.
BTW
When did you change your name to Glenn?
and it's a gearie!!
that's why I was turning his offer of a tallboy down you FOOOOL!!
When did you change your name to Glenn?
it's short for "glenda" which is what I'm know as at the weekends xx 😀

29ers are crap, you need a road bike for rubbish conditions.
tiredness creeping in, I withdraw my last statement 😳
Both my bikes are 26" XC hardtails. Both have 100mm forks. They are as so different it's beyond belief. One is cozy and smooth for all day jaunts, the other is a vicious monster that wants me dead.
Changing to bigger wheels? I'm not convinced.
29ers are only for those not man enough for 26ers, the easy option as it were
Changing to bigger wheels? I'm not convinced.
neither are actual 29er riders, which is why we try and convince folks that the "wisdom" of singletrack is correct and they'll kill you as soon as try to turn a corner or ride anything more tech than a fire road.
We're a bloomin public service, we ride these death traps so you don't have to!!

My wheels exploded three times today.
Put all the other riders off even trying one.
They thanked me for the warning not bother with them.
Buy mine and find out for yourself 😉
Do i want a 29er xc hardtail?
Probably. I do. Try one at least, and give it a good old try not just a little spin.
I also do tend to enjoy doing bunny hops, manuals and general tom foolery on the way to stop the mind going numb, out of the question on an "xc" 29er?
Not out of the question but not as easy on a 26 because the wheels are heavier.
