Pathetic I know as we don't get a lot of hot weather but got to drop daughter off for 2 hours gymnastics training this evening, and I'd normally have a 60-90 minute leg stretch on the bike to kill the time, but not really fancying it tonight after 51 miles yesterday.

Was also awning on a 30 mile round trip tomorrow night to marshall a club TT, at least I wouldn't be racing in it!

Lord knows how people who live somewhere properly hot adapt to it. Probably by not riding late afternoon

Just been out for an hour on the road in the midday sun. I'm a sweaty bast at the best of times so today was an attempt to put in just enough effort to get a cool breeze. Was better than sitting in front of a screen so I'll call it a win.

When I lived in Sydney I used to ride in the summer including at up to 40C.

Drink plenty of water, the airflow from the ride is very cooling and pleasant, you'll be fine.

Yep, was going to say the same. Sweating and moving is a lot nicer than being still in the garden

Go out for fun rather than knocking your pan in?

Sack it off and go and drink cider in the park and shout at buses

Hell no. We're just back from dropping the post off by bike (7-ish miles) and we're knackered 🤣 It's nice if you can get a bit of a cooling waft going but as soon as you stop the sweating starts!

2hrs of gymnastics in this heat would finish me off.

I didn't know we'd met.....🤔

2hrs of gymnastics in this heat would finish me off.

To be fair, I expect half the squad will be isolating, some broke up from school last week and might be away, and with no shows or routines to produce in the foreseeable they will spend 2 hours chatting and stretching into unlikely positions rather than working hard.

Of course you do.
A bike ride on a lovely, sunny day is one of life's true pleasures.
Take lots of water, your lightest kit and get out there. Plus, if you're a roadie, it's one of the few times you can deploy a full unzipped jersey to channel your inner Thomas Voeckler. Large necklace and HRM also required to complete the look.

Was a lovely temperature

Can probably manage the tongue hanging out gurning part, but no necklace or hrm I'm afraid

Unzipped jersey? You monster, think of of the extra aero drag! 😮 😆

I managed ~4.5 hours on Friday morning leaving before early rush hour, including some relatively respectable efforts up the inclines, but since Saturday even the morning temps have been nuts by ~0900.

I'm now on annual leave, but heading out in 30C+ heat to Butser Hill area isn't terribly appealing, but then neither is putting the bike on the turbo... Exercise in the heatwave is so much harder to deal with when carrying ~10Kg extra of mainly fat insulation compared to 2017.

I went out for 25 mile sunset spin on the road bike last night, it was still brutally hot at 7:30pm.

I got home and buzzed my hair off grade-2.
No way I'm cooking my brain in this heat...

What you lose in drag you more than make up for in style. If you can gracefully zip up and put a newspaper down the front when you get to the top then you'll win any race on style points alone.

No way I’m cooking my brain in this heat

I'm out with the run club tonight, I'm praying no-one fast turns up!

I've decided not to ride my MTB this afternoon (as I'd planned) and inch up some steep hills drowning in sweat. For the first time this year I've missed having a pure road bike as it's far more enjoyable to zip along at 20mph with an unzipped jersey in this humidity.I don't have a problem with dry heat - I've lived in Australia and ridden happily in 35c+, days when going outdoors felt like opening an oven door - but the humidity here is the killer.

If I could get straight out in the country lanes than yes I would ride but I cba riding for 40mins in this weather all the way through Manchester in rush hour to actually get somewhere nice.

So conversely either a run or turbo for me 😮

I had to abandon the van south side of the erskine bridge to due traffic. Cycled home(only 10-ish miles). It was horrifically hot and sweaty. I am not looking forward to the return journey later.

Cycled in 25 miles this morning.

Will be cycling home again in an hour.

Toughen up you bunch of wimps, it's not even 30C FFS!

It's hell of a lot easier to count the stations not reading 30C+ around here currently. 😆

I was a bit silly today and suffered...left home around 11:00 am and rode over to Swinley and not back until around 13:00. Not the best time to ride and I'm only glad I took enough water... but it all became a bit slow motion.

Rode a 50 miler from 10.30 through 13.30. Was super hot even near the sea, kept it flat so average speeds were high.
Nearly hit by a punishment pass off a caravaner, the tow car went past, i thought h that was a bit close, then
the flippen caravan appeared a few inches off my shoulder.
The bow wave of air pushed me into the gutter, i started 1m out and ended 30cm out. Chased the ahole as fast as i could, absolutely seething. Set off a smiley face speed camera at 31mph but he got away, his extended caravan mirrors were going up his arse.

Dunno about anyone else, but riding is fine for me - its stopping thats the horrible bit. I arrived home around half an hour ago and I haven’t stopped sweating! Once the breeze has gone, my body just can’t get used to it. Ah well, in the office all week and I ain’t using the car!

We rode around peaslake today 11 - 2.30. I completely ran out of ability to ride up hill anymore, felt sick and had a bit of a headache. It was a real struggle to get food and fluid in. I've fully perked up now though. Ready for a cooling beer!

Yup. Did a lovely three hour road ride yesterday, and was fine with the heat until I got home and stopped. The sweat was literally dripping off me within a couple of minutes. Still, I could get straight into a cool shower.

It takes about ten days to get 90% of your heat acclimatisation - or something like that. Which is why the randomness of the UK heatwave is such a pain in the backside. And once you've you're adapted to the heat, it goes away as suddenly as it arrived.

I do hot really badly for the first few days, then perk up once I'm a bit more used to it. Today, fortuitously, is a recovery day. Yesterday was out the door at 7am to ride mostly shady back lanes.

Extra water bottle just for pouring over your head, I've avoided anything with a half decent climb for the past few days and I nearly passed out after a ride putting the bike back in the shed, the digital thermometer in there had reached the 40's.

Went out just now, ride to the local park and lake as it's usually cooler there. It was and I was rewarded with a few minutes watching these 3 just going about their business:

Cheered me up at least!

18 miles at a nice steady pace was very pleasant, no dickhead drivers, not too much excess perspiration.

Heat combined with eating dinner and drinking more fluid killed any motivation I had to go out this evening.

It's almost 2130 and it's 24C outside and it's 28C in our lounge, FFS!🥵🥵🥵

I take it back, Heathrow was the hottest place yesterday, 31.4C. Probably about the time I rode past!

Upgraded from "not even 30C", to "barely 30C" 😁

Remember official temperatures are recorded in the shade, which is why car and Garmin temps often show higher.

I never realised this. I have noticed my Garmin (Edge 820) always seems to show what seem like improbably high temperatures. I think I only really see the temp stat when it's actually in my hand after charging though as I don't recall seeing or looking at it when riding for some reason.

I did a gravel event on Sunday, 65 miles & nearly 7000ft - got through nearly 10 bottles of water.

Still managed beer & a curry after 🙂

My body runs warm all year so I dont operate well in this extreme heat.

I went out early Sunday morning for a ride, it was warm, but 35 miles in and I headed home, the heat was just too much for me. Its only 9am now and I am overheating, roll on Friday!!

I find road rides in the heat much more tolerable (as others have said) due to the extra speed, meaning extra wind, meaning extra cooling. I did a 40min/20km road loop last night at about 8pm and it was perfectly pleasant in a SS jersey and shorts.

With that being said, I am out on the MTB tonight, but for more of a cross-country schlep as opposed to winch and plummet. Don't fancy winching when it's this warm!

True, although that's down to the colour, shape and orientation of the object and the suns radiation, the air itself is the same temp.

I enjoyed it so much last night I'm doing a 35 mile round trip tonight to stand in the heat and marshall a TT.

At least I'm not riding it.

Yes you do. It'll be winter before you know it. Come winter you'll be looking out of the window at the dark dank sky and lashing rain one day thinking 'how can it STILL be raining?!' and wishing you had gone out on that hot summer's day...

Well thats my rationale.
