I have a bronson itch to scratch. I demo'ed the previous version & it was one of the best bikes I have ever ridden, precise & rocketship fast. However I wasnt in the market for a bike then and the asymmetrical swingarm & associated design compromises to suit a front derailleur annoyed me.

The new version has no such issues so I'm looking at a frame & swapping my bits over. But what if the reason the demo bike was so good was it was top end cc with all the light bits on it? Where as my kit is lesser spec'ed & heavier, wheels especially. Would be a waste to spend 2k and have something that rode the same as my current bike.

Would an alloy v cc frame ride differently? I cant image they would & I have a natural distrust of carbon anyway.

Airdrop edit currently, 34lb or so.  Very good bike for smashing the descents, a bit heavy & I dont think it pedals particularly well.

I have a carbon V2 CC, doesn't have top end kit on it, Pikes, XT, WTB rims on Pro4 etc...

FWIW if I was to do it again, I'd probably buy the alloy model, as carbon makes bugger all difference to me, it's lovely, but the weight difference is negligible. I reckon you could buy an alloy version, and have lighter kit hanging from it, and be happier if you distrust carbon anyway*.

Which I used to as well, which I've now realised is a bit silly!. 🙂

Probably right. My mate has a 2017 Bronson C which doesn't have top end bits on. He could've spent another 2K on a CC (can afford it) but couldn't justify it.

He's a bit of a mountain goat & on Saturdays ride on the NYM he was climbing stuff (as usual) that I find impossible. I asked him how it compared to his old 2012 Orange 5 & he reckons the only real difference he can tell is the fatter tyres on the Bronson on descents, which are more confidence inspiring. He doesn't think it climbs any better than the 5 that's for sure.

Yes if it’s the primer grey colour because that looks cool

There wasn't anything like 2 grand of a difference between the C and CC when I bought it.

Have a mk 1 carbon. Brilliant bike. Is CC worth it? Don’t know but a set of carbon wheels is where I put my money. Genuine game changer as is good light wheels on any bike. For what it’s worth when I buy a new Bronson I’ll be buying the reserve wheels. Currently on sram roam carbon. Don’t trust carbon? 🤦‍♂️

I'd personally opt for alloy and spend more money on components. You'll probably end up with a similar weight bike as the cabron, but with substantially better components.

Just looked at my shorts again.... I have the planet X union bib shorts not the Clubman's.

These were more expensive than the xlubman ones so thought the pad would be better ?

I have a V2 Alu, bought it second had off here earlier in the year as also had a Bronson itch, and happily it's everything I'd hoped it would be.  I'd love a V3, if I had the money I'd probably get carbon, but for no more reason than saving a bit of weight and the fact it's carbon.  Having said that, I probably could not justify the extra outlay unless a deal was in the offing, and be just as happy with alu again.

Real world, the only differences between the alu and carbon are weight, and the shaping around the linkages (as carbon can be formed in a way alu cannot).  Geo, ride etc will all be the same - again assuming the same shock.  Additional weight can be saved with sensible build choices and still leave a chunk of change over a carbon frame.

I'd go for the blue rather than the slate, I had a Mountain Mint Orange 5 with all black components and it looked superb, the blue Bronson would give a similar look.  FWIW I feel the Bronson is significantly better on the ups than the 2016 Orange 5.

Before my mate did a test ride on a 2017 5, he thought he'd be ordering one, (to simply replace his 2012 one, which had 150mm Floats on the front, & it climbed like it had an engine ) Wrong. It was slow/sluggish & just felt heavy, so he got a Bronson.

You need both

An XXL CC for Enduro steamlinering

and an S in Alu for jibbing
