Plan to run a RF narrow wide 34 chainring and an 11-36 with oneup components 42 ring, have purchased the oneup components rad cage, do I need to ditch my XT derailleur for a clutch mech?

No. I run 1x9 on my Soul without a chain device or clutch mech. Haven't dropped the chain yet in 8 months.

If you want to fit the rad cage then yes, you need a clutch mech. Not compatible with the standard shadow mechs.

Yes will be fitting the rad cage so new purchase of a clutch mech needed, and my 2 mint xt mechs will be in the classifieds.

Same setup as me, decided not to buy a clutch mech to see how it goes. Dropped once but not too concerned that I want to spend another £50 on a new mech.

When doing my set up I even emailed oneup regarding compatibility of the rad cage. Came back to me confirming it's for clutch mechs only.
