Just converting a friends bike to 1x. I followed the big + big + 2 rule but wondering if it’s a little short? Photo is with the shock fully compressed.

I've always used biggest cog to crank (direct) plus two full links although with clutch mechs that may have changed.
I would say so...i tend to judge chain length by what it looks like on the smallest cog...but if it shifts OK then it'll be fine.
The cable also looks a bit on the short side to me...i'd prefer to see a bit more slack there
Looks fine to me. 👍
I thnk one more link would be ideal but that is OK.
Thanks everyone
I'd keep my eye on the brake hose too.
Is there any slack up front you can pull back for both gear cable and brake hose
it's the correct length.
No one bottoms out (properly set up) rear suspension riding in their lowest gear.
Longer chain = less spring tension from the mech cage = more chain slap/flap in the highest gears.
Cheers. I’ll have a play round see if there is any slack on the cables.

Sometimes things don't go according to the plan. Best to have enough chain to be safe. That looks fine to me, wouldn't want it any shorter.
From memory sram say 2 extra links for a fs.... 4 for a ht.
But remember, the chain growth is not always at its longest when she shock is fully compressed....
On my old Marin the suspension was about 2/3 compressed to get chain growth at maximum.
Not saying it's the case with your bike but it's worth remembering.
i'd put one more link in especially if it's a NW ring, that and the clutch mech will take care of the tiny bit of extra slack
