Anyone running the Vault Mg? How does it hold up in the rocky stuff? Do they hold up well enough compared to the standard aluminium version?

I have both, the mg are newer so hard to compare exactly but they seem to have bigger gouges than the standard al vaults. I don’t use them on very rocky stuff regularly though.

I destroyed my mags in less than a year - the weight was the reason I bought them, but I wouldn't go for another pair - they just don't hold up well with rock strikes, completely deformed and pins rip out very easily

I replaced with Nukeproof horizon - very impressed so far - actually much better in the flesh than in the pics

The shape of the Vault is great. I've never used a pedal that goes through bearings and bushes at the rate they do. Everyone who I ride with who uses them just accepts they are rattling crap for some reason.

Have had a set of Horizons which are almost as good in shape, but I have never even touched the inside of them. The Vaults have had multiple sets of inside in the same time and the Horizons still feel better.

Got some OneUp on another bike which I haven't had long but they feel great too (so far).

Not sure i've seen a good review of the Hopes anywhere.

I've got the Alu ones on both bikes.. .whilst the platform is great the bearings are rubbish. I also seem to lose a lot of pins on the pedals on the full sus.

Will probably try the one up or crank stamp next

For those suffering with rattly Vaults- stick a greaseport in them. Not difficult to do, and I can't remember the last  time I had to change the bushes.

(I drilled a hole into  the axle housing just inboard of the outer bearings, and tapped it to take an extra pedal pin. Then just squirt grease in here until it oozes out the bushing, refit the pin. Repeat as desired)

Meant in a non d*ckish way, i'd rather just buy something that worked in the first place.

Which is why mine are in the spares box 🙂

Agreed, but having splashed the cash on them, then discovered they're sub-optimal - its an easy and cheap fix to ensure you still get your money's worth out of them. Mine are 6 or 7 years old now.

Ride Mg Vaults in the north lakes too. Also battered, deformed and missing pins.

I always end up disagreeing with you on these threads - have three sets of vaults on different bikes and never had any bother - the oldest set is seven or eight years old and has hd just one service kit in that time. You must have got a dud pair. Or maybe I got the three sets they got right.

Same here, 4 sets of Vault, never had an issue with bearings.

Counterpoint

Two sets of vaults. Both as described, rattly within weeks of a rebuild  by comparison, Nukeproofs have never needed attention

Yep - I think it's fair to say they are either a hit or a miss pedal (this thread, others & real life experiences seem to confirm). Mine are certainly the latter.

It's a shame, as I did like the shape of them, but now there are lots of others out there, all with good shape without the question mark of reliability (and a chunk lighter now too).

I've had the DMR before and liked them, but I've heard they can be hit or miss. That's why I was looking at the Hope after enduro-mtb mag had them as a recent test winner.

100% identical experience to me. I had Horizons which I never touched in years, bought Vaults, go through bushes and bearings every 4-6 months. In the same way, got fed up with constantly maintaining them so just dealt with the rattle earlier this year. Then on Sunday this happened:

The 'bearing for ants' on the outer end of the axle gave up life and left its race embedded in the pedal.

Bought some Burgtec Penthouses to replace, platform a tad smaller but not by much and the bearing size looks to be much bigger.

Meanwhile the Horizons are still trucking on the commuter bike, still untouched.

Worth mentioning maybe that the mag vault is a smaller platform than the alu. Wouldn't usually be a big deal, but one of the things people really like about the vault is the large size.

But yeah, also, I have a set of vaults in the spares box, and 2 sets of horizon comps actually on bikes, and the 2 (better, more reliable) horizons cost less than 1 vault.

I didn't know the Mg was smaller, that's useful to know.

Just looking on the DMR site, it doesn't seem they are different sizes looking at the spec.

I have Vaults which have been faultless and haven't been touched in over a year. I have Horizons which have needed no attention after a year of riding and have even been through the dishwasher.

For grip I finds the Horizons much better but its down to preference they feel like a bigger platform than the Vault to me too., had Hope F20 which didn't have anything like as much grip.

The new Anvl Tilt pedal looks interesting, anyone ridden them?

The midi size vaults are narrower

@hobnob have you had any more time on the One-Up pedals? Wondering if anyone makes a pedal that feels as good as the Vaults without their downsides...

Yep, still running them on one bike, thumbs up from me but it's too short to say long term.

IMO if you want something that feels as good as a vault with none of the issues, it's easy, NP Horizon. I have these on the other bike and they have been faultless & feel as good as the vault. I'd have got another set, but they were out of stock at the time so ended up with the OneUps
