Yes, me. Don't bother, poor seals on both bearings and freehubs. The initial saving over Hopes ain't worth it given the cost and hassle you'll have in the future.

The freehubs had a reputation for not being very hard-wearing, although the are cheap as chips and dead easy to replace. I did a year of DH and urban riding (stair drops and what-have-you) and it did me just fine, so maybe the reputation is unfair. Fully serviceable and rather inexpensive - you could do a lot worse for your money.

I'm still using a 20mm front Revolver on my SX Trail. It's been on two other builds over the last three years and has been regular weekly use. The bearings are still smooth.

Might be an option for the front then.

I'd like hopes but cash is tight. Any other options?

I have had these in their on-one dog hub guise and have been faultless for the last 4-5 years. Very easy to change bearings (never done the front). Would recommend them.

I've had no problems with mine (front and rear on two bikes), they've done loads of miles over the years and I've never needed to replace anything yet. That said I tend not to be much of a wet weather rider. The freehubs seem cheap and easily available although I have heard the comments about the seal quality.

DMR currently sell two rear hubs, the 6 pawl 9 speed cassette (RRP £99.99) and the 9 speed hub (RRP £59.99). I don't have any experience of the 6 pawl design but it is exactly the same mechanically as the Halo 6 Drive hub. I have been pushing the cheaper hubs to my customers on the strength of their cheapness of servicing, two bearings at £4 each and an easily replaceable freehub at £12.99. I've personally used a Club Roost which is the same for five years now and think they're great.

I can't recommend the DMR front hubs so strongly though. They are designed for a 20mm through axle and use inserts to convert to a QR fitting. These inserts seem to allow a little play in the wheel no matter now tight the QR is done up.

Superstar Switch hubs seam like a great cheaper alternative. The rear I have is very similar to a old Hope bulb. Make sure you get the evo version because it has a ali axle and freehub which is much lighter.

X2, its now being used to commute to work (including offroad lunch time 3 days a week) by my father. It's never had any work.
