Hi,
I need new pins for my Vault pedals and saw that there is this moto x alternative to the standard ones.
I haven’t found any reviews so was wondering what are these better at than the standard ones.
Are they supposed to be more grippy?
Cheers
The sales page says they are 11mm long and a "direct replacement". They fit from under the pedal, so that 11mm obviously isnt the whole story.
Usually more length means more grip. DMR Terror pins (my favorite standard fitting pins to wear with shin pads) are 10mm long, compared to the standard 6mm. They do fit directly in through the top of the pedal though.
Do DMR do specifically longer pins for Vault pedals?
The standard pins are 8.5 and 12.5mm, the longer ones go on the outside of the pedal, the Moto X are a bit shorter but maybe due to their shape they are grippier?
I’m normally quite measured with my reviews of anything because most things tend to have both pros and cons, and it might but be the case that for oneself the cons heavily outweigh the pros but the reverse could be true for someone else.
However, I got some Brendog Vaults by accident (ordered the standard ones) so I tried the Moto pins for a while. OMFG they are appalling!!!
1. Less grip than normal Vault pins.
2. Destroy your soles much faster than normal Vault pins.
3. Lacerate your skin more easily than normal Vault pins.
Only pro is that you can move your feet more easily but that’s not a pro I want on a flat pedal (and can be done without destroying your soles and shins with shorter or more rounded standard pins).
@chiefgrooveguru thanks for that, it's exactly what I needed to know, I'll order the standard pins then!
Shame I could have sold you a lightly used set of the Moto ones! 😉
