Hi,

Hope you are all having a nice Christmas. I received some DMR Detahgrips as a gift. They feel good but due to the tapered end I can't seem to get them to sit as inboard as my stock grips. I've tried loosening off the screw all the way and bashing them with the sole of a heavy safety boot (I don't own a rubber hammer) but they are still positioned about 10mm further outboard than the originals.

Is it ok to leave them like this or should I try harder to get them further inboard?

This is how they are designed.

Its OK to leave them like this if you want your bars 20mm wider, as they have just the one inboard clamp. If you want your bars at normal width then wack the grips harder as they need a fair bit of persuasion to get them seated properly!

When Deathgrips are all the way on they add 5mm to each end compared to most double lock-on grips. Personally I’d want them all the way on, it helps stop them moving.

I found that when you whack them on properly, the noise changes so you know they're fully there.

Some of my favourite grips these, but I always manage to make them rotate no matter how tight they are (within reason).

They do need a good smack to get them all the way seated. Rubber Mallet in my case, but you could lean it against a wall I guess.

Need to be all the way seated - I had mine with 6 to 7mm left outboard and one snapped riding downhill.

The other side of the coin: as they're on so firmly, is there a trick to getting them off again...?
Or do they simply need to be hauled off? I've done as the OP, just fitted a new set that arrived as a gift and once they were seated courtesy of that hefty rubber mallet, idly thought to myself 'I wonder how you get these off again later..'

Are u sure they’re not just 10mm shorter than your stock grips?

Borrowed my Dad's wooden mallet and they went on easily with a couple of taps. Wasn't sure whether the diamond knurled part of the grip was supposed to be at the top or bottom. At the moment I have it at the top with the Deathrgip writing also visible on top.
