Hey peeps,
I had been toying with the idea of getting a cruiser bmx. My young lads getting into bmxing and i've been hitting the local track with him a fair bit.
I'm now thinking it would make more sense to get a 24" or 26" DJ bike that I can use at the track but also learn some good skills that I can use mtbing, I've been wanting to learn to jump properly for an age!! I could also grab a frame and throw a lot of my spares at it to get going a bit cheaper.
So what to go for? I'm 6'2" so guess I need something relatively long.
I'm liking the looks of a Santa Cruz Jackal and have seen a couple of Nukeproof Snap frames fairly cheap.
What do you guys suggest? anyone selling anything?
Anyone? Morning crowd bump...
I'm also interested in the advice here, similar size and just moved to an area with some dirt jumps and I wanna have a play.
I jump on a 26" DMR Trailstar I picked up in the classifieds. As you say I find a 26" a better bet than a 24" because of the similarities with my main mountain bike, and the tranferable spares is a bonus. It's a short frame but is ideal for getting the front end up and general maneuverability, it's not as if your doing long miles on it. Start cheap and see how you go with it.
what about this ? http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/voodoo-shango-forks-bars-stem-wheels-maxxis-holy-roller-tyres-45-posted
That looks like a bargain.

Please find out who builds the jumps and ask before riding them.
To the OP - Yes you can ride a dirt jump bike around a BMX track, but it will be much heavier and feel sluggish compared to a proper race BMX unless you buy a decent one and spec it out with good parts. A cruiser will be fine at the track but they don't work all that well at the dirt jumps.
Ah I missed the bit about it being a BMX track. In which case maybe a 24" would be ideal, snappier than a 26" but not as tiny as a BMX. DMR do one for about £320 new which looks reasonable.
you want a dartmoor quinnie, fairly long with a steep top tube angle so your back wont kill after the first lap of the pump track,. plus they look mega.
