I'm currently dismantling my bike for shipping and need to remove the rear derailleur.

Am I best to remove the derailleur from the hanger or remove the hanger with the derailleur still connected?

Would either approach result in misalignment/issues when reassembling?

Thanks.

Leave the hanger attached to the frame - unscrew the mech, wrap in bubble-wrap and secure safely inside the rear triangle. Make sure you fit frame spacers in the drop-outs

Leave the hanger attached to the frame

Any reason for this? This seems the most popular way, but it does not protect the hanger from damage.

Why should I leave the hanger on the bike?

Which ever is easiest, though if the hanger protrudes a lot I'd take that off
