Inspired by that Salsa Collosal in the Classifides, but with a bit more clerance for bigger (32c?) tyres and guards?
Is chinese carbon the only way to get cross frames only at reasnoble money?
what you calling reasonable? pro 6 are <£500, PX carbon are ~600, this is under 400, kaffenback is arguably cx at £150
I'd go Chinese carbon over all of those I reckon!
But then you'd die when it broke. Or singlehandedly put all of British companies out of work. Or is there a new FUD reason not to buy those yet?
planet x London Road for £300.00 is worth a look, would cover the things you mention, seems to be a versatile frame and not too heavy.
Cotic Escapde - £329.
For £350-£400 I'd go Chinese carbon.

What are you utterly Mental?!!!?
It will kill your face off and dead you to bits!
I are an Engineer so that is a actual fact!... FACT!
Which Chinese carbon frames are people using?
Would you be able to build up with a decent spec to rival the £1400ish offerings from Rose, Canyon and Cube?
Dunno what their offerings entail, but you could do something like:
This frame for £350ish
These wheels for £250
This groupset for £605
And finishing kit, say £300, which would be £1505 for a hydraulic disc, carbon wheel equipped carbon bike. Not too bad. What are the Cube/Canyon/Rose offerings?
Alloy frames, ultrega hydro or force weighinhg 8.6 to 9.6kg
Caadx rival is similar price too
I built a chinese carbon road bike for about 900 quid with 105, K-Force Light cranks etc. Just needs some judicious shopping

Speeder cycling cx frame/ hylix carbon bars and equally shoddy Chinese seatpost 😉
I haven't died yet !!!
Ragged it for 9 months
I was thinking ICAN, the frames come in arround £340 shipped, so plus tax and handling (another £105 ish). So a 105/R685 build should come in £1100-£1200 ish depending on wheels/kit.
Considered and escapade, but I'm not a fan of compact frames visualy, and it doesnt seem much of an upgrade from the kaffenback.
Just really want a cyclepath commuter and lightweight tourer, with disks, guards and big tyres. Without the tall/lazy geometry or looking too odd. London road actualy looks quite good.

If you went with cable brakes you could chop £300 out of the build I specced, and that was 10 seconds with Google, there are definitely some deals out there!

They look good, website's annoying though, no prices even once you sign up.

This is how I got looking into the chinese carbon frames, but have decided that I would be better off spending a few hundred quid less on something ready built for that. If I was riding loads of cross and on proper trails I'd have one, but for commuting and occasional tours it seemed a bit of a waste of money from my point of view.

Thing is, appart from the Kaffenback, there isn't anything a few hunder quid less.
Dunno, what set this train of thought off was a combination of a few roadies starting riding at lunchtimes from work, finding traffic free cyclepath route into work, and my shifters dying this morning so it's about time to retire that bike to turbo duties. So needing something racey enough for clubruns, but tough enough for all weather commuting. Kaffenback and the london road are definately closest so far.
@ plus one..which EBB are you using?
Its a shame Evans don't do the Pinnacle frame only.
I suspect that one could buy a bike and flog the bits you don't want and swap to bit you like and end up with a cheap frame. But that is hassle
This is £850 and 105
For the record I think we have to include a Croix De Fer for £375
They will also sell you one for more money as well
Croix De Fer's front tyre clearance is shocking at best.
Beer components .. Not cheap but flawless so far !!
You can get a merida frame set from paul Milne for 300 quid (alloy, disc)
Cheers..
I got my XLS from planet-x for £400
I've bought one of those London Road's and part way through building it up. Happy to report back if anyone's interested.
Not much to say at the minute. Weight of frame/forks is pretty close to stated weights on their website. Alu steerer on the fork btw.
Its a shame Evans don't do the Pinnacle frame only.
We do/will - they're due in a few weeks. Splatter-painted SS frame + full carbon fork or cyan matt blue geared F+F. RRP TBC but approx £350, can't see it being more.
Edit, yes, will be less than that by the look of it.
Ribble were doing alloy CX frame and a carbon fork for sub 200, dont know if it was disk though!
Oooooh SS version of my Pinnacle would be nice.
Hope you'd have forks to match!
