OK I'm running Shimano BR M486 and TBH they are not working as they should.

I have been told that they may need bleeding but I have no clue how to do it, so can anyone help me out please.

Nice simple Simon step by step guild please.

Cheers

Sorry, can't answer your question exactly but try searching on you tube. There are a good few tutorials on bleeding shimano brakes so hopefully one will match the brakes that you have. In this case pictures are way better than words

+1 Youtube.
I've no idea how to do Shimano but I have done Hope, Formula and Promax and none of them were as difficult as I had thought, so be put off by thinking itmight be hard to do, take your time and do it slowly and it can be simple.
.
Need to learn how to Hyundai ones now.

Forget a LBS bleed kit, go to your local vets and blag a syringe (a 40ml or 50 ml would be best) then to Halfords for a bottle of mineral oil fluid and a length of 4mm windscreen washer hose. Same kit, about half the price.

Did the video show you to bleed by injecting through the bleed valve, or the good old fashioned way via the reservoir?

+1 for what Scapegoat said. Iv never used an official bleed kit, even when i worked in 3 different bike shops. I always preferred to use my own home made one. (i had to buy the correct adapter for my Hayes levers though)

Plus i pretty much ignored the official methods the manufacturers say. I just bleed from the calliper up to the reservoir at the top in the lever. Never had a problem in 14 years or so. Just be very careful not to get any brake fluid on the discs, pads or shock seals.

That ebay kit will do it. It'll come with instructions so will put you at ease if you haven't done it before. Ghetto/Halfords is cheaper in the long run as you get about 300 ml fluid for a fiver, and it doesn't go "off" like Dot fluid. If you can, slacken off the lever mount, and swing the lever so the reservoir is horizontal. Make sure you use the right screwdriver in the res caps, as those screws have a reputation for rounding off. Lastly, if you're going for the inject it up through the bleed nipple method, take the caliper off the bike, remove the pads and fill the space between the pistons with a wooden or plastic spacer. That way you don't get fluid on the pads. Use the opportunity to clean inside the caliper with brake cleaner or IPA. Have fun.
