Didn't have funds for Reiver entry when it was open sadly but I still fancy getting over there before midge season for some gravelling. Are there any parts of the route that aren't open the rest of the year? As a non-Northumbrian not knowing the area it would be easiest to base a GPX off the Reiver.

Appreciate any input, cheers.

I’ve ridden most of it in none dirty reiver mode and never had an issue.  There are some local closures for logging operations occasionally but if you give those a stiff ignoring and just carry on nobody seems to care so long as you’re sensible.

Unless there is a notice telling you not to ..the forest roads are open at any time ..the weekends are better with little to no logging traffic ..

I've lived here for more than 20years and only in the last few realised that you can go pretty much anywhere in those forests. Have a look on the OS map and you'll see the forest roads. In the Wark Forest bit there's basically a big rectangle loop with bits off it linking Kielder and Stonehaugh. Some of the bits off are good, some link through to other bits, some are un-rideable dead ends but lots in there is good. There are bits north of the lake which I don't know so well then there are bits towards Bewcastle and Newcastleton on the Reiver route which are good. The latter can be accessed from Kielder on the signed cross border route if you're lacking a map. Just go and explore and note what was said above about the logging. Watch out for the logging wagons, they make a mess and don't hang about!
