I know nothing about this what so ever!
Is £200 an ok budget?
What should I be looking at??
I got the Zwift hub, it does 148*12
It wasn't £200
Can't think of any direct drive ones that are £200.
I've got a Saris H3, my widest bike is 142 but it will take 148. Again, it wasn't £200.
Handy to know what to look out for second hand
Tacx flux here. Believe adapters can be purchased to fit more or less any axle type.
I got mine second hand for £200 or £250 (memory fails me).
Piece of advice for purchasing second hand: these things are blinking heavy. They’re full of ballast so you don’t fall over when riding your bike on them. So just look for what’s available locally then check if adapters are available for your axle.
My Wahoo Kickr Core has an adapter that you can switch round to do either 142 or 148 by 12mm by the looks of it. I’m running it with a 142x13 gravel frame at the moment.
New it was about £600 - but a quick glance on Facebook classifieds and I can see a few arou. £250-£275. A lot are £300+ upwards but I can’t help thinking that’s a bit optimistic from the sellers
Thinkrider X5 claims to do 148x12. And can be bought for 200 quid, or close enough.
My only concern about using one with a MTB (particularly a 1x one) would be running out of gears. I've always needed a big ring of some kind.
Bit of a hijack, thinking of a Zwift Hub, w 11spd cassette, will I need to reindex my gears, or fit a spacer to mean its a seamless swap between road to trainer.
TIA
Not a Zwift hub but with a kickr core I don’t need to re-index gears
Bit of a hijack, thinking of a Zwift Hub, w 11spd cassette, will I need to reindex my gears, or fit a spacer to mean its a seamless swap between road to trainer.
Either jiggle spacers to get the cassette in the same place between both, or reindex.
Not needing to reindex is usually down to blind luck.
Ive got a direct drive LifeLine Xplova NOZA S Smart Trainer (Acer) from Chainreaction. I got it for £249 new. But its £349 new now.
Mrs SSS and I have one each.
I've got one of those ETC Thinkrider X5 DDTT. It does 148*12 and pretty much every other size except super boost. It's full smart and works well on Zwift. I paid £280 a year ago so £200 is a very good price assuming they have stock.
