I'm moving away for Uni in a few months and this means needing some extra money. I know I need to sell one of my bike to do this but I'm stuck between which one to sell. I'm definitely keeping my trail bike and intend on taking this to uni with me. I need to sell either by road bike or my jump bike. Each one has its advantages but they also have cons as well.
The road bike is a Dolan Prefissio which I built over christmas. It has full 10 speed 105, bontrager wheels, GP4000's etc. It's not the most high spec road bike but it's definitely not bad. Only issue is I'm a mountain biker at heart. I only ride it to help with fitness for MTB, I can't actually say I enjoy being shaken to death on rough roads, however it is definitely far more practical than the jump bike.
The jump bike is my Nukeproof snap which I've had for a few years now. I don't get to ride it often but when I do it always leaves a huge smile on my face. I know it's worth more than the road bike in terms of value and it's extremely impractical. Another bonus is the fact there is a pump track less than a mile from where I will be living.
Any thoughts on what should go and what should stay ?
Road bike ..awful things !😁
I'd sell the jump bike, as its the more niche and impractical out of the three.
Road bike. They suck, are boring and as you say, get rattled to death and eventually run over.
You enyoy ,the jump bike and have a pump track nearby.
Can you make some more cash between now and then instead of selling one?
Barwork or something else on the evenings?
When I moved to uni I took my road bike mostly to get about on as I didn't have a car to get to the trails.
I'm already working part time alongside studying. The real reason I need extra money is to fund a car and insurance, driving is a requirement for my course so really I'm stuck. I'd love to be able to keep both. You make a good point about getting about though.
road bike
See above...
If you're getting a car, then maybe you don't need the road bike then 😉
Roadbike would stay.
Jump bike would go.
But in reality. To fund a car... Its hardly worth it. Even a high spec bike would only keep you on the road for a couple of months let alone buying the bloody thing.

you rode on a road bike to the trails with your MTB strapped to your back ?
Whichever you like least for me it would be a jump bike as I enjoy road riding
Jump bike - especially if it’ll raise you more money. Road bike fitness is really helping me be vaguely ok for mtb when I go out. Jump / hardtail thing doesn’t get used much. I enjoy it when I go to the pump track but it’s quite a rare occurrence.
Sell the road bike

🙂 nope, couldn't get to the trails and only had space for one bike so I took the road bike and only got to mtb when I went home.
Sell the road bike. I used my dirt jump bike loads at uni, for jumping, for doing urban stuff and for getting around the campus.
Sell the road bike then if you come into a little money later you can always buy a cheap 2nd hand hybrid/road bike for a round £250 for fitness if that's all your really using it for
Learnt a long time ago to never sell a bike that you really enjoy riding
