So I went to fit an MRP ramp control cartridge today - I thought it just needed a standard cassette tool to screw it in. However mine doesn’t fit - although it’s fitted all the cassette lockrings ive ever tried (Sram / Sunrace / Shimano on standard Shimano type freewheels. It also fitted the Rockshox charger 2 damper cassette tool ring.

Are there multiple different cassette tool standards? (Given this is to do with bikes it wouldn’t surprise me)

I've had two different shimano (as in branded shimano) cassette lockring tools that wouldn't fit every shimano lockring.
If Shimano can't get the tolerence right for the tool to fit their own standard it's no wonder anyone else using the standard or making tools to fit might struggle.

In answer to your question. Yes. There are many different cassette/freewheel removal tools for other manufacturers cassettes. but there's just one shimano HG standard.

Balls - not quite sure how to make sure I buy the correct one to fit the cartridge. Maybe I’ll pop to a couple of bike shops tomorrow if I get a chance and have a look to see what might fit. It looks like the splines on the current tool are too squared off, where the cartridge almost has slightly pointed indents.
