Do you have different helmet for road and MTB?
I've recently come into possession of a Scott Centric plus and while I intended it for MTB, it's so bloody comfortable I'm tempted to use it on the road in Leiu of an S Works S3 .
Muddy helmet on a road bike though? Tut tut tut...
No road bike, but I guess I'd be ridiculed with a visor on one, and it's a bit vice versa. Not that the things really have much use other than keeping the sun out of the eyes sometimes.
But I do have a different helmet for night to day. Purely because I can't be bothered to take the light mount off for day rides. Oddly I don't want to risk injury from a landing on my head with light mount during the day, but at night it's okay (I'm not so fuss about breaking the mount, it's a Schumacher kind of injury I'd be worried about).
So because I mostly ride the hard tail at night, then yeah I have a different helmet for the hard tail, sort of.
I make a point of wearing odd bits of mtb clothing on the road bike (mtb shoes, baggies, all my helmets have peaks). All the more entertaining when you leave some FKW for dust (though not quite as much fun as doing it on a brompton in smart clothes).
Haven't been out with my new more 'enduro' helment with an oversized peak yet.
I find that a helmet peak on a road bike obscures my vision too much. This is probably less of an issue for the MTB types whose fat stomachs prevent them getting into a low position.
Nope.
I don't think I have road or off road specific anything, apart from a couple of bikes.....
Find it a bit odd, tbh......
A helmet with a visor gives me a sore neck if riding on drop bars. So I remove the visor, then don't bother refitting it for MTB stuff.
Or just wear a cotton cap on the road bike instead...
Can you get those cotton caps with MIPs?
Four for me.
2 enduro style for mtb..... Can't be bothered to take light off one for night rides.
Full face for the downhill bike.....stangely, if I ride the same trails on my normal bike I'll wear a normal helmet.
An old mtb helmet with the peak removed for road.
MIPS?
Just wear a hairnet underneath...

Yes, mountain bike helmet is heavier, has a peak and covers the base of the skull more. Road helmet is without peak and more vented.
As for clothing some stuff crosses over but by and large my road stuff is nicer. Mountain bike stuff is from the cheaper end of the scale as I fall off or get it covered in mud or ground down with grit. Road stuff lasts longer, except for longs which I seem to get trashed by coming off in the winter.
All the more entertaining when you leave some FKW for dust
Have you considered a fat bike, this is essential for racing somone who is either not as fit as you or isn't racing. It's allegedly hysterical.
Had an awful dream I was riding a bike with drop bars last night. Couldn't control it because my head and upper body kept sinking down toward the bars. Don't recall what dream helmet I was wearing.
Lycra on the road and a peakless lid, for the commute I just got one from decathlon at the moment but no peak. MTB it's mostly baggies and bigger lids, peaks etc. only cross over is XC races (never serious) where the lycra and road lid end up on the dirt.
MTB helmet = vents for slow speed, vertical ventilation, as well as protection from branches, etc.
Road helmet = vents for higher speeds, more lengthways ventilation. Less about stuff sticking in to it.
Horses for courses.
I've got 3 helmets: 1 for road; 1 for mountain; 1 for commuting. The commuter is actually just a second road helmet.
My MTB helmet is an XC job, so would look utterly ridiculous on a road bike.
I used to but my MTB helmet wasn't very comfortable so I just wear my road helmet for everything.
Also it's hilarious when I bunny-hop over some Enduro-helmeted gnar-dude at the local trails*
*this, of course, has never happened. I am a mincer of the highest order.
My MTB helmet is an XC job, so would look utterly ridiculous on a road bike.
Why?
at least horses have the excuse they're taken to courses and forced to run against their free will.
Catlike Whisper helmet on road, cross and off road for me. I don't have on or off road specific clothes either. Just tight fitting lycra kit. I only have shoes that differ. Road and off road.
Can’t see the point of different kit for the road bike, I do tilt the peak up a bit though. Then again I use flat pedals too, sorry.
Nah, I'm currently on a Lazer Z1, before that a blade and before that a Prevail S3 for MTB, cross and road
Yep..cant wear a peak on the drops on the road as it obscures vision. I also have an aero helmet that goes on when it's cold.. Tbf only bought it as it was 20 quid in a planet x sale
Absolutely different helmet. Kask protone for road and giro chronicle on mtb. Just as I wouldn't wear baggy shorts on the road bike I wouldn't wear some clunky Helmet with peak.
i suppose I could wear the road helmet on the mtb but it does seem quite light. I prefer a bit more bulk for when I clunk into tree branches.
I just use my Troy Lee A1 for everything currently. Though it has been a bit 'swampy' on my head in the recent warm weather. something better ventilated would definitely be nice.
TLD D3 carbon for enduro/dh/bike park
TLD A1 for mtb/occasionally gravel bike
Kask Mojito for road bike/gravel bike
Morpher for Brompton
kask mojito for commuting/drops
bell stoker for off road
i have two if the last two too...
I have a 'road' helmet, but only because I won it. It's way lighter than my Bell Super and obviously has no peak.
Other than than, my road kit and MTB kit are the same thing. Baggies and flat pedals on the road bike...
I won't wear a peak on a helmet on or off road - I have seen two people with cut faces after innocuous tumbles on mtbs from the helmet peak. dangerous things
This is all fine but what style helmet for a gravel bike?
I have two helmets.
A green mountain bike one - Bell Stoker I think. Good helmet, lots of coverage.
I also have a Catlike Vacuum which is more roadie style. It has loads and loads of vents, so I wear it more in summer. I have long, thick hair though so my head gets hot - hence this dyson of a helmet.
I only really a helmet when mountain biking or if a sportive makes me wear one though.
Don't normally wear a hat but if I do it's my bowler either on or off road.
Sometimes, I did have separate helmets then I cracked the MTB one so it got relegated to emergency spare.
I'll probably replace it for the winter to put the light on it.
Yep, road and mtb specific helmets here.
