Ok, this is driving me nuts now, what's the difference between the two?

M986 is direct mount, m985 is standard mount on a normal hanger

986 is direct mount compatible, it still works with normal mech hanger frames too.

I had the same question when I bought mine.
Go for the 986 as it will work as hanger or direct mount. I think you just take a little bracket off to use it as a direct mount but you don't get the removable bit on the 985.

Cheers folks, I was struggling to find a M985 with a medium cage but have spotted M986 with them so will just get one of them.
