A mate of mine has just bought a bike from a well known northern irish mail order shop that was listed as coming with Yari's solo air but has turned up with fox 34s rhythm . He's not sure if he has won a watch or not , I think the yari's are the same diameter as the lyric so im pretty sure they will be a bit stiffer than the fox  ,160mm travel so i wouldn't want a flexy fork at that travel. I am not to sure about the internals and where the fox sits in their range .

what do you all reckon , stick with the fox or demand they send him a yari ?

Before he goes demanding, I'd check the description on page. A lot of bikes I've looked at usually state that the spec can change from the product shown.

At 160mm travel, I'd say the Yari is more suited. I've got a 150mm Fox 34 on one of mine and I wouldn't want one any longer with 34mm stanchions.

The Grip damper in the Fox is very good though, so I suppose it depends on if he would notice a little flex, or how heavy is he?

I sent him the link to this thread so i have to be careful how i word this but he is a rugby player so not really a xc whippet if you get my meaning 🙂

my first thought was there isnt much difference between them and if it was a budget 36 I would probably say just forget about it but its a fairly big long travel bike and he has spent a chunk of cash on it so you want something that is fit for the purpose that the bike is intended for .

Hmm, then I'd contact the supplier and voice his concerns. I'd agree that the Fox 34 and Yari are a different category of fork. Especially for a "powerful" lad 🙂

The Yari would be a better choice for me so I would be unhappy. I am rugby player size too though...

Yeah my thinking is they have put a trail fork on an enduro bike to use the marketing terms.

Which bike is it out of interest?

Niner rpd 9 from a couple of years ago, it was a good deal but not sure how he should play it.

Manufacturer reserves the right to change spec without notice, but you can still reject it if not as described.

The 34 chassis is more akin to the revelation/pike and the 36 more akin to the lyrik/yari.

Having said that, the grip damper in the rhythm fork is a good bit better than the motion control in the yari

In this case I'm not sure it's the manufacturer who has changed the spec as opposed to the shop. Looking at the catalogue all other specs of his bike have fox 36s of various types.

I wouldn’t fancy a 160mm Fox 34 tbh - they aren’t even as stiff as a revelation or pike. Generally the 34 is somewhere between the 32mm RS forks like the old Revs / Reba and the pike in terms of stiffness.

Although the grip damper is meant to be better than motion control.

If it were a Fox 36 Rhythm that would be different and I think I’d take that over a Yari.

Yeah that's pretty much my thinking Joe.

I have told him to email them and confirm first that the fork fitted is 160mm to ensure the bikes designed geometry isn't compromised and to question if they think the 34 is designed for the same type of use as a yari.
