Looking for a different brand of tyre to try. Always used Specialized grids but the new Gripton sidewalls aren't as tough.

Looking at the Maxxis DD Minions and noticed this disclaimer on one of the German sites. Anyone know if it's true

Note from the manufacturer: refrain from using ammonium based tyre sealant. After a few months, the ammonium weakens the tyre’s carcass by 30 %.

Never seen anything like that before. Then again i've never really read the small print on anything.

What does "weakens by 30%" mean anyway?

Kenda used to have the same warnings back in the early days of tubeless conversion kits, basically don't use Stans a it has a small amount of ammonia in it (not enough to mean it has to be on he label but it is in there!)

Had the issue of deforming Conti tyres and the distributor said that Stans causes it.  Don't know if it's true but I switched to Conti's RevoSealant and never had problems since.  I now run Maxxis and WTB tyres with the RevoSealant in and haven't had any issues.

Maxxis was running that 4-5 years ago I think?

Always used stans, never had a problem in the end

Stan's sealant, which has one of the strongest ammonia smells is fine with their tubeless ready tyres.

I've pretty much always used the Maxxis/Stans combo, and while I wouldn't want to swear it hasn't weakened the sidewalls, I've had may two punctures in the last five years or so, and it doesn't seem to effect the construction of the tyre at all.

personally I don't think it's an issue that would make the top ten list of "things on my bike I need to think about"
