[Closed] Did Hope ever do personalised Rotors?

At the back of my parts drawer in the mancave I've always had a pair of rotors that came on a bike with some old Hope mini brakes. They appear to be very high quality but have the name 'sturdy' laser cut through them. Google'ing suggest nothing but my mate thinks they may be Hope rotors that have been personalised, did they used to do this?

Nice1 thanks. Was it around the same era as the original Hope Mini's with the silver numbered calipers?

Yeah, probably the best part of 20 years ago now. Shame that they don't do it now.

The only place I could find that seems to do it now is this one:

https://shop.brake-stuff.de/individuelle-bremsscheiben/bremsscheiben/31/individuelle-personalisierte-bremsscheibe-mit-wunschtext

55€ per rotor, which isn't daft, but they'll only add your name to the middle rather than the brake track like Hope used to do.

(Note: not a recommendation - was just googling around)

There is a good reason they stopped.

So many stress raisers with combined heating and cooling used to crack them badly. More so than the old lightening bolt rotors.

I've got quite  few "Singletrackworld Big Hitter" discs in the shed - £5 each?

This reminds me that years ago a mate who owned an LBS was going to have one made with "Dave's a bit anal" cut into it. He never did because he was a cheap fit (well, never turned much profit to be fair). I should have one made for him reading "Mick's a bit tight" which would have been apt

Yes! I still have my big daddy one on the wall in my bike room. Was very chuffed with it 20 years ago, or however long ago it was!

Yes. I had some and they lasted many years before the stress risers took hold. I had a chunk missing from one and got a new bit rig welded in. It was a bit lumpy but usable

I mentioned it in a conversation about rotors whilst on the phone to hope tech support about an unrelated subject and even though they were probably 10 years old they sent me a new pair.

Finaly realised you never have been, and never will be a ‘Big Hitter’ Al?

I had some with 'shiver me timbers' on them, as i had marzocchi shivers on the bike.

They weren't great rotors, it almost felt like you could feel the indents on the rotor when breaking.

Sold it years ago, would love to know where it is now.

I have an avid roundagon rotor made on my birthday somewhere.

I'm still using my blue Hope Mini Mono's with 'BeagleBoy' etched into the levers on my hardtail. Although, I don't ride my hardtail much nowadays as the brakes really, really don't work anymore. Still nice to look at though!

The lighting ones did crack pretty quick. Disappointed to hear that the custom ones did too, although I suppose it's not that surprising.

Excuse me while I go to make a typeface with limited stress raisers and disc edges that maintain a constant pad contact area...

Mine never cracked or died, just got retired. I think a new bike meant the bolt pattern changed

I had one of the very first sets of Hope Minis in the country on a new build XC race bike - courtesy of a shop that had a very close relationship with the guys at Hope.

He had quite a few custom rotors hanging up round his shop - used them as a sales tool. They did look cool but the wavey rotors were so unique on their own that they never really needed any more bling! IMHO.
