Could someone please tell me the length of the Mk2 alpine headtube please, in 18" (Im assuming this would be the longer of the 2 headtubes). Trying to see what length steerer I can get away with and cant seem to find the info on Mikes site.

It's not particularly long if that's what your worried about. My forks are about 175mm and have a 15mm spacer under them.
