Just bought a brand-x dropper for my cx bike, and got as far as taking out the BB to fit it before remembering there's a di2 battery in the existing seatpost 🤡🤡

Are there any good solutions to this - it seems like an impasse?

You can get Di2 batteries for the head tube or end of the drop bar? I think..... It's either that or the old school external mount. Either way it's a expensive or 'ugly' fix.

Put the battery in the steerer with a compatible stem?

Mounting Di2 batteries in the seatpost has always been a bodge/afterthought ... (secured by friction, too easy to nip the cables when you remove/refit the post, weight high up, no dropper potential etc.). Proper internal frame mounting is a much better solution (see some Canyon bikes) .

The steerer/stem mounting is possible but fiddly (I've tried it). Sram have shown how to do batteries.

execpt they put them in the wrong place on the front mech so you can’t use 2x AND wide tyres.

Dependent on the size of the frame openings in the HT and BB, you can fit them in the TT and DT.  This is what I did with my Trek Stache.  I'm guessing since you had an internal battery before, that you have internal cable routing?  My cable inlets were too narrow for the DI2 cable so I just cut the end off it, routed it and then soldered/shrink wrapped ii at the end.  I mounted the battery in some crushable foam, compressed it, installed it an let it expand.  Removal was a bit of a pain, but not too difficult.   You could potentially mount it further down inside the seat tube with something attached to fish it out later...I couldn't do this as my seat tube flattened lower down, so no way to get the battery further down.  Is yours round?  Might work.

I've never head of or seen a bar end Di2 battery.

Thks all - some stuff there that would work long term, but I think I'll just put it on my other bike with mechanical grx as I want it for the 3peaks in a couple of weeks. Should have thought this through a bit more lol.

The seat tube in foam idea sounds easiest if it can fit snug - I guess that is the challenge with all the improvised internal fixings.
