How the hell do you set one up? I weigh 17st ish 😳 with all my kit on and it's fitted to my intense 5.5, I think it's 07/08 model. I'm not sure how you set the thing up any help would be welcome.

25% to 30% sag,
rebound probably full slow or one click out due to air pressure needed for sag and damping design.
150 to 170 in boost chamber
Bottom out half in.

Also if it has an HV air can I'd replace this with a standard size one or pack the HV can with grease to reduce the air volume as they tend to blow through the mid-travel.

Having worked on a these it would probably benefit from a custom tune to get it working well.

Ok how do I know if it's got the HV can & can you perform the tuning magic thing or do they have to go to mojo. What about the pro pedal or is that a individual choice?

With an HV can.

Standard can.

The HV can has the extra cylinder on it.

Yes I can tune the DHX airs, PP is individual depending on use, I used to run a couple of clicks in from full off.

Yep that looks like mine, would a normal can fit or does it have to be model pacific?

Cheers will have a tinker with it and your top of my list of jobs if I need to get it tuned.

You need to look here my friend.

This thread also has loads of stuff about internals of the DHX Air.

You'd just need to specify the length and stroke, I can suppy these, the packing it with grease is the cheaper option.

That's certainly an interesting method of rebuilding the shock on the MTBR link 🙂

EDIT: You can obviously home service them, however I think they're a pain to do, and I have done hundreds of the things, so the chances of getting it bled correctly is pretty low. TF won't touch them.

I can verify what loco says works. Packing it with grease is definitely cheaper and it works (really well) but it is bloody messy. If I could I would change the air can but with the size of my shock I cant.

From my experience the pressure and volume of the boost valve really make a difference as to what the shock feels like.

BTW the last post in the MTBR link is very close to what I think 😉

Edit: Loco I assume by rebuilding you mean the bleeding process. How would you bleed it? Use a syringe through the port by the rebound adjuster?

I can confirm it works and works well, I have rebuilt 3 shocks for people this way. It's best to leave the shock settle over night to allow all of the air bubbles to escape, alternatively as I have access to a vacuum chamber this works far better :D.

This works on the coil version too.

The bleeding is the issue.

Kona, again the coil link isn't exactly what I'd do, but with the use of a vacuum chamber I'm guessing that'd work alot better 😉

The IFP measurement they use too works on the basis that the shock hasn't blown as it'd be out. I'd also use a 24mm 6 sided socket on the resoivoir cap as it's easy to slip with an adjustable.

Here's another version.

Version 4

Nick_M2R is the nuts, I have followed all of his mods and they are spot on.

Even if the shock has blown it makes no difference, the origional IFP settings are listed on his mod threads. All you need is a Vernier Caliper / Depth Gauge.

I use a Vacuum pack machine (From my old place of work) modified to allow the shock to be placed inside.

Similar to this (Has a demo vid too).

It's a 190X50, also is it possible to change the length and stroke ie longer length and longer stroke?

So there is no nitrogen charge in it then?

Nope, the pressure in the compression / rebound circuit is back pressure from the IFP / boost valve. Which is why they do not reccomend riding the shock with less than 75 psi in the boost valve 😉

Mine worked really well. I havn't had many rides on it since doing it but it is definitely a massive improvement. I think I bled it well. When trying to compress before I put on the air can and after charging the boost it was near impossible. I could do it but it was hard. I took this to mean there was no or very little air in the system. TBH for the cost difference I dont mind if the little bit of air means I have to change the oil twice as often as a full service but I dont think I will.

Ok got that, what oil weight is needed and can you buy the o rings as a kit form?

Not all his IFP depths are correct, but will make little difference for most of them.

Lipseal, you can get the standard cans for that length.
You can extend travel and length but to honest the cost of parts (only available from Mojo) in conjunction with a full service from them would mean it would be cheaper to buy another shock, there are plenty of RP's on CRC.

You'd have to take it apart and take all seals to a seal supplier to supply, check sizes very closely as they're imperial so some may not be quite close enough.
I had my kits manufactured specially, and I don't supply them.
Hope this all helps 🙂

If somebody wanted to get new seals from a supplier in the way LoCo suggests I might be keen on buying a couple of sets so you can make a few quid on them.

Does WikiLeaks do requests? Can they get somebody from fox to get the tech specs for us all?

Not sure about being compared to Tom Cruise 😕

Loco:

Low Cost

Guys, if your intersted, I use a local company to supply all my seals & bearings.
As an example of price, a full set of SKF frame bearings for a Giant Anthem (Which is a lot of bearings!) and a full set of SKF wheel bearings for Hope Pro 2 cost £60 delivered, they would normally retail for about £100. Email me if your interested and i'll send through a link and contact name, LoCo, this company is in Barry so is quite close.

He can even get replacement 6mm bearings for Shimano BB's from the US, but their not cheap.

So does nobody know (or not telling) what oil is used in the shock?

Konastoner do you have the o ring sizes then?

Its about 10 weight. Apparently its torco that fox use. I just got some cheap 10 weight from Halfords.

Sorry, don't have the sizes as my O rings were fine. They should be standard sizes and specs though and will be readily available from the likes of Ebay or alternativly I can give you the contact details of the company I use. I would suggest joining MTBR and PM-ing Nick_M2R.
