Blimey that track looks a bit tricky. The track walk pics look terrifying on PB.

Yeah it looks absolutely ruthless.

That's what you get for whinging about Leogang being a bikepark track year in, year out. Forecast snow for Sunday as well!

I'll watching and correcting their technique and criticising line choices from the comfort of my living room.

One extreme to the other with Leogang. This is one race I will watch, looks like its going to be a banger/carnage 🙂

BBC showing it as well afaik, I'll be watching on redbull tv, looks like the new section will be a absolute carnage by Sunday and I can see a good few going around the gap

I looked at the XC course, that too looks very difficult and the lap I saw was from a few days ago when it was not so wet. So both the XC and DH will be a slipfest.

May suit those from the UK (and Franc a bit) who actually ride/train in wet conditions quite a bit. Whereas those poor Californians wont stand a chance with mud and wet roots, chain or no chain 🙂

A lot of riders Insta pages have been swinging between "oh this will be fun!" to "We're going to die aren't we?" and that's whilst the weather is 'good' it's 15c-20c there at the moment and has been dry the last few days (that I've seen) it's going to be 6c and snowing Sunday.

Yep, some good stuff on the SC syndicate feed with Peaty and Minaar. Some of it looks pretty gnarly. Some of it also looks pretty British too - handlebar straddle down a soggy chute of doom anyone...!?

BBC showing it as well afaik, I’ll be watching on redbull tv

Wait - doesnt the BBC showing it mean we get a bloody geo-block on the Red Bull coverage in the UK again? (I hope not!)

No, it came close a couple of years ago, but RB streamed it live in the end.

Wyn looked scared at 7.45, so many tress to hug!

A lot of the riders are worried I think, it really isn't going to be the BikePark track they were fearing.

From the wall ride down just looks ridiculous. If it is wet that is going to be utterly bonkers. a real test of technical skill and on-the-fly line choice as it'll be different every run.

Cant wait!

Said this back at the start of the year when we thought we might get a full series across Sept/Oct ish...

I know that all the Worlds riders are clearly brilliant and far more skilled than us lot will ever be, but still this has gotta play into the hands of the British guys, the French and Canadians too who have grown up and gone through the ransk doing regionals and nationals on shitty, muddy, sloppy courses for years...

Generally speaking, it's surprising how few people can actually ride in the wet.

Think this might be a weekend for the Brits

Will be carnage! VitalMTB posted their RAW vid this evening, makes some of the best look a little scared! Reece Wilson looked pinned though, the line he takes and speed he carries through the stumps section half way down is nuts! Visually way, way quicker than most others through there, he gaps a huge section when most a just struggling to ride through it!

Been waiting all week for this. It actually looks mint. I thought it was bordering on unrideable which would have been horrible to watch but it looks like they're figuring it out.

I hope they've not made it too gnar. 😬 It's appealing to see riders tested in theory but it doesn't make for great racing if they're scared and crashing.

Manon Carpenter's interview on pinkbike about the different venues trying to 'out gnar' each other and how it doesn't translate to the racing was a great insight.

Looking good another proper mudder. You don't want to be going sideways on the take off for that big gap!

Not much racing this year but did anyone watch EWS Zermatt? Really good compare and contrast POV footage of some ugly wet terrain from Bernard Kerr (struggled) and on-form Jesse Melamed (ripped through it).

Reece Wilson was also the only rider who when interviewed and asked if he was worried, basically said: "No its awesome, like racing a Scottish national, cant wait"

Today is timed training and some of the teams on Instagram have said that if the race can't go ahead for any reason on Sunday then the results from today will decide the winners.

The weather forecast hasn't gotten any better with constant rain predicted for Saturday and Sunday with a chance of snow.

This could be an amazing race, or a complete bummer.

That's the one! Insane compared to the rest, a few others look to have tried it, but most failed! Could be a real dark horse. Brits could dominate, though Finn Iles also looked pretty quick.

Watching the timing I'm looking forward to see the footage. Some riders have obviously made mistakes (some big ones) and we're now getting a few big names starting to take big chunks out the previous best times... This is going to be a belter - hope we get a race.

EDIT: and living in France I'm a bit biased, but what a group of men's elite racers they have... Arguably, strength and depth like no other nation right now?

Vali stomped the women’s field.

I'm not sure stomped is the right phrase. She as a couple of seconds over Tracey and Tahnee isn't looking that bad. Lets hope for a race on Sunday when it really be just go for it as there will be no second chance, I reckon there would have been a few riders not giving it 100% today in case they crash to hard to race on Sunday.

It will be gutting if Sunday doesn't go ahead, I have already got the beer and junk food in.

Should be great with people going all in, I still fancy reece wilson for a top 10.

Think it will be a French victory, would like to see vergier get it. Always seems a little by like he is overshadowed or cracks under pressure

2.5 seconds on the next best and 15/16 seconds on Seagrave and Nichole, not to mention 35 and 40 over Caribou and Hoffman. That Sir, is a stomping.

Still, nothing for qualifying in Worlds and with a likely degrading track Sunday, sandbagging might have been the order of the day.

Re: Tracey, it isn't, I agree. 3rd place is more than 14 seconds back, so I think that's pretty stomped by most standards. In the men's field 14 seconds back gets you down to 17th place as it stands right now...

(EDIT : and it's finished so that gap to third place in the women's race is the gap to 17th in the men's. It's a stomping)

Ah, seems Hoffman crashed 3 times in Quali at least. Looked VERY cautious on that steep bit with the stumps Brook McDonald exploded onto a few years back.

As the results stand, that wouldn't be a huge disgrace, in my opinion, for neither Men nor Women. But, it'd be a huge shame for everyone because I still think it'll be a cracker.

I dont think it will be cancelled - there wasa discussion about this with Cathro on the downtime podcast, reckoned even if it snowed there will be an army of people lined up to carve a line through the worst stuff on Sunday morning.

They will be desperate to do absolutely everything to run this race.

Is it Gondola or Truck uplift?

Ummm, the table on PB says 2.65 over Tracey, 15.945 over Tahnee, so more than "a couple of seconds"

If it snows I guess it would be difficult getting medics to any injuries, after brooks crash and subsequent evacuation delay its a big risk.
The racers will get down anything.

I think it's a case of "lets hope it happens" - next week is Portugal isn't it? Should be a bit better.

In other news the F1 was red flagged today because the weather was too poor for the Evacuation Helicopter to fly.

I don't think anyone can complain, but there's a reason why some Sports are done in summer and not now.

Having marshalled FIA events before they are conservative about this also because of the potential nature of injuries and the distance to some of the closest emergency units (some tracks are well out in the sticks). Not sure if that's a factor in Leogang, but it would be a shame if that's what stops it.

Like I say, I'm looking forward to the quali footage because I think it has the makings of a really good race. Yes, it's techy, and yes there will be choices to be made in taking a potentially riskier but much faster line and if it sticks, it'll be a winner and if it doesn't it'll be a DNF or 15 seconds to get back on the bike and get going again.

Personally I think that's one of the things that makes racing good - it's a risk/reward decision and like all those things sometimes you can push your luck and it pays and sometimes it won't.

I'm really looking forward to the race. The track looks a belter, and as for trying to out-gnar other venues, I think it's actually paying off. There are some other bonkers races (the psychosis thing seemed more gnar but probably actually isn't as techy inso far as I don't think there's as much line choice or risk/reward choices - it's more a case of just don't mess it up) but that's not what this is, IMHO (but IANADR etc)

Wow. You might want to watch Bruni's clip in slow motion a few times like I did.

It looks like the only fast way out of that stump section is to go hard inside and it's a hell of a gap when you're coming in sideways.

To be honest, I've had awesome days in the Alps in similar conditions and it might be a laugh to ride it but I can't imagine the pressure they're under. My only goal is to dick about and finish the day in the bar rather than the hospital. For them this is the biggest race of the year and there's no bottling out.

Do they still get to race, or is that them done?

You get to race as long as you were a protected rider. Both Laurie and Brook were protected.
Start order is also unaffected.
Laurie looked fast on some splits, so it could be wild.

In the men's field the top 80 in seeding also get to race.

Its incredible how literally ONE pole makes a portion of the course of bloody difficult.

The commisaire could move that pole 3 foot out and probaly completely change the whole section of course.

Be interesting to see if anyone in the race runs is tempted to go for broke and jump over the low.

Maybe. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Vali is clearly a really god rider, but she's ahead here because of one section in qualis. She can just as easily wipe out in the race if it's still slippery.
