Ok so I've just treated myself to a DH bike and just wondering what trye pressures I shuold be running at?
Tyres are these Specialized Butcher SX, 60 TPI, aramid bead, soft dual-compound, 26x2.3"
Terrain will be lakeland trails with a few rock outcrops.
Current run my HT at 40 psi as it's maily used for Commuting
Running my FS at 35 - 38 psi for trails
Jusat wondering what to run the DH at

There are several tech articles/forum posts around about different pressures. Something with a bit of science behind them.

Sure SDH/Ride.IO has one or two too.
25-30.
i know some run them really low for more grip but I prefer to roll a bit faster...
22-24 in the wet/mud
25-27 inter conditions
28-30 in the dry

That's interesting. I don't set my pressures according to conditions, but if I were I would instinctively go harder in the wet to cut through the mud.
that would give you less grip on roots and rocks, not sure how 2.3 Dh tyres would "cut thought" mudif I were I would instinctively go harder in the wet to cut through the mud.
Unless you are racing and every second counts I wouldn't bother changing tyre pressures just run them at about 27
Impossible to answer, soft enough to grip, hard enough to avoid pinch flats.
How heavy are you?
What bike do you ride?
How hard do you ride?
I Tend to set them to ~25psi the night before and often let a bit of air out after a practise run or two... Its probably just a bit of placebo effect but I reckon I end up running them something like ~23psi as a result...
A big part of it is "feeling", ground conditions and suspension setup, that and how much of a Big Fat Heffer you are too...
It's an inprecise science so measuring it with much more than about 5psi accuracy is a bit silly really, but nevermind...
Cheers guys for the info
I'm 6 foot, 89.5 kg with the kit on and backpack.
Bike is Specialized Status FSR I 2012
I ride as hard as I dare but not hardcore or race speeds
hope that helps bigyinn 🙂
On my DH bike I run;-
18-22 in the wet/mud - using spikes / Der Barons
20-25 inter conditions - using Der Baron / Comp 16's
25-32 in the dry - Using Minnions
