So after missing out on going to Canada this I would like to get away over the winter.
Any recommendations for the companies that organise this sort of thing?

I'm hoping to do something similar as I've missed out on a summer riding holiday this year. Ride Portugal is what I was looking at, apparently they have year round riding. Not sure if they're actually any good though but the trails look awesome and they have on-site dirt jumps 🙂

I've not used them (yet), but I have heard good things about Switch-backs.

I've been having a read of Roost dh, Switchbacks and the bikeshuttle websites, all based around Malaga, Spain area.

Roost looks like my favourite, hadn't considered Portugal

Switchbacks is great. Dave and Mike are good lads and the trails are hot and dusty. It's certainly no substitutefor Canada but it's perfect to punctuate the UK winter. It's not a guided tour where they hold your hand it's like uplifting local trails with your mates. We stayed in a nice apartment in Benalmadena but now they've got that big scarface mansion. Can't wait to go back.

I have ridden in Portugal and Malaga.

Portugal was with a company called Freeride Portugal based in Olaho east of Faro (not sure they still operate) The riding round Faro was pretty rocky and tech with quite a lot of air. It felt harder than the trails around Malaga. Ride Portugal is based further west they probably do a lot round Monchique, trails here are good, longer but less techy. Not sure how many there are though.

Malaga is pretty good with lots of trails. I went with Switchbacks but if I went back again I would use the bike shuttle. I met the owner Salvo in Andorra and he is a really nice guy, he is also responsible for a lot of the trail building. He is probably a bit cheaper than Switchbacks as well.

I would go back to ride round Faro but would probably choose Malaga over Lagos.

Some great info here, thanks.

Bit far for a weeks holiday is New Zealand! Although I'd like to go at somepoint.

On the Roost website it says food is included in the price of the stay, so that would really help with funds obviously.
I'm guessing all 3 companies based around Malaga ride the same spots

Switchbacks is the original Dh destination in Malaga, excellent riding, great guides, excellent accomadation. Free food sounds like a good idea but the food out is mega mega cheap in spain. I mean cheap.
Switchbacks FB page

has some good stuff on it.

I am pretty sure they will all ride the same trails.

Switchbacks was the original but having been out with them twice, I sometimes got the feeling that mike has started to take his customers for granted. The newer competitors might be a bit more focused.
