You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
On the Daughters current Commencal DH bike we have these X Fusion RV1 Coil Sprung forks with the Rough cut HLR damper with HSC, LSC & rebound.
We've also got the RockShox Boxxer Select's that came with the newly acquired Vitus frame for next season. The Select only has the basic Charger Damper with LSC and rebound. The LSC only has about 5 clicks of adjustment.
We're running the lightest spring possible in the X Fusions and running the damping open - but only using about 90% travel - I need to adjust the pre-load shim stack above the spring again to get the extra bit of travel.
The forks feel really plush.
Wondering whether to stick with RV1's and put the Boxxer on the Commencal when we sell it, or keep the Boxxers and maybe upgrade the damper to the Charger 2.1 RC2 with HSC & LSC.
Mostly because the RV1 are really hard to get hold of parts for, i'd run the Boxxers and yeah i'd go for the 2.1 if i could.
Nothing wrong with 90% travel. I always like a little in reserve for those "oh ****" moments. Last thing I'd want during one of those is to feel a hard bottom out.
Thanks, just checked and the Boxers are 250g lighter too......
Which for a 50kg rider is going to be a significant amount.

You'd likely need a custom tune to be in a workable range of adjustment as your daughter is well off the bottom of the average range that the standard damper will cater towards. Might be worth emailing a suspension tuner for advice before deciding or upgrading
At 50kg you are going to need some internal fettling on the damper side to have them flowing the right amount of oil.
Would also recomend having the bushings sized correctly, most forks out of the factory are on the tight side. And being a light rider, this is only going to be more important.
There's a few really fast kids at her weight like Harry Carr and Joe Steele who we hang around with in the paddock, they're running stock internals on theirs. Most things are wide open like above, but they work. I'd ring Ruth at TFTuned and get some advice from her, but i think the Boxxers would work anyway.
The boy raced on RV1s on his first Fury, until he exploded the bridge on the Kerr Quad at Rogate.
Spoke to J-Tech and you can't custom tune the basic Charger damper - needs to be upgraded to the Charger 2.1 RC2.
Will see how she get's on with stock damper and maybe upgrade next year.
would a smashpot run lower enough for her weight? They make them now for the boxxers

Would a Trutune widget help? I believe they are/will soon be available for Boxxer and we know they are especially good for lighter riders, helping get more travel.

Hadn't thought of that - just had a quick look and they do one for the older 35mm Boxxer.
£100 is cheaper than the £400 damper upgrade....

Absolutely, and it may have a more noticeable effect too.
You may have seen the threads on here where those of us who have them are raving about how good they are. I fitted one to a Charger 3 Zeb last year and it made a huge difference anyway, even at my average bloke 80kg weight.
Made me realise that most of my not-quite-happy feeling with that and my previous Charger 2.1 Zeb was with the air spring rather than the damping.
