Anyone got any tips or pointers for some good non-trail centre riding down here in Scotland's Deep South?
Good as they all are, there's nothing better than a good old trek into the sticks armed with a bike and a map for a day out, but because of the 7 Stanes, EVERYTHING to do with MTB around here is focused fully on them.
There are forests and hills galore around here, so there MUST be loads of wee trails and routes tucked away, so if you fancy sharing, that'd be awesome!

YES!! Pretty much exactly that! I'll have a ratch over the OS maps - thanks for the tip-off.
Middle and bottom photos are made up rides around Ae and Wee Queensberry.
The one with the tin she'd is out of Durisdeer. The tracks used to get over to the Daer Res are shown as dead ends, just a case of joining them up. Then pick up the Southern upland Way over to Dalveen Pass. Pick up the Roman Rd back down to Durisdeer.
Tracks around Wanlockhead to Sanquhar or 'tother way round. (Top photo is Wanlockhead mines)
Train to Sanquhar and ride back to Dumfries via whichever route you choose. Avoid the SupW all the way up to the radar station and descend on the Enterkin Burn "path" to Dalveen Pass. Either return via Durisdeer or head up the Tarmac road. Choice of Roman Rd to Durisdeer, keep on Tarmac and pick up SupW. Then there is the choice of the hike'a bike up onto Wedder Law or the hike'a bike up the SupW 'tot her side of the Daer.

There is also some estate tracks above Mitchellslacks not indicated on the maps, can be found on Google Earth. Fair bit of hiking involved. I was up there yesterday on an exploratory hike'a bike 😆

Somewhere below Wee Queensberry on the edges of Ae forest. Accessed Ae via the forest road at the bottom of Bran Burn Bash. Then up to Turbine Alley/The Edge 😆 20ml ride from Ae cafe...
Will be better the other way round, more dh 😆
