Just found an old mountain bike guide route from the peaks from Ernest Press (1996 edition), and i was wondering , if you had it as well, what will be the best routes I should do from that guide? Looking at the pictures of their old bikes, they could be sticking to some rough fireroads only, and the routes might be dated compare to what we can do with our new bikes and shiny suspensions. But i could be wrong!
thanks.
I had that guide years ago, it's fine. The trails haven't changed much after all. It's not as easy to follow or as pretty as the V-Publishing guides, but if you can decipher the route instructions, there's nowt wrong with it.

please please sir "is there pipe lagging?" 😀
Other than than usual caveats about choosing the right route for the weather, there's nothing in there I'd avoid to be honest, although I don't know the southern ones that well. Certainly the rides around the honey pots of Derwent/Edale are on the same trails as the modern guides. I just rode the Beast a bit slower back then 😉
Chapelgate has been santized, ride it as a climb or not at all. A good mate of mine who lives nearby and who's bike wouldn't look out of place in the guide ( 😉 ) still uses these guides, IMO they are a good basis on which to plan rides with the help of OS maps to add a little extra
I'd be wary. Plenty of stuff in the Peak is sanitised now (as mentioned above).
Splash a few quid for a new guide, or find routes on-line.

yes its all flat here and there are no corners, its ALL fireroad now. Stay away
Oh the joys of the walker, ruined everything for us here. I used to love riding over South Head until it got "maintained". 🙁
