I can't figure out how to link any more, but CycleDerby are reporting a series of incidents around the Riverside path/Pride Park/Alvaston Park and Canal Path/Harvey Road area where a group of teenagers, some on Derby's hire bikes, are harassing other riders, trying to knock them off, block the path, demanding money with menaces.

The advice is obviously to take care out that way, turn round if you think you might be at risk, and report anything suspicious, especially with any cam footage.

The comments on original post are offering lots of advice to the Police how to deal with it and/or offering to go and "sort them out like the good old days", so no need to start on here!

I'm local to that area.Where was this reported? There has been a lot of similar behaviour more Long Eaton way on Route 6

I saw it on a Facebook post from CycleDerby - apparently this group have been at it for a couple of weeks from the reports and comments.

I'd not seen anything about the Long Eaton issues though.

That's Derby for you...one of the richest cities in the country in terms of average wage, but walking around you'd think it was one of the most deprived cities in the UK. In the 20 years of living near to Derby it doesn't seem to have changed much. In fact it feels like it hasn't really progressed at all and been left behind compared with other less affluent cities. I've never known a town or city with such little ambition. Great for decent beer though. That's the only thing that brings me into the city centre these days.

And yet in the 20 years I've lived near here, Derby has changed massively - new shopping centre and city centre layout, leisure facilities, improved cycling infrastructure, massive expansion of the uni and student population, with the knock on to the night time economy. Got its act together and starting to look Shottingham in the eye at last.

Sure it has its shit areas and low life, but so does Windsor!

While a quick Google throws up that it was voted the sixth best place to live for under 30s last year.

I've lived near Derby most of my life, and still go due to my love of the Mighty Rams. It has always had some great drinking establishments, but agree it feels somewhat left behind by other cities. If given I'm slightly closer to Sheffield nowadays there is no comparison between the two and I spend far more time in Sheffield. I will never forget the festive joy of the Cordoned off Christmas Tree though! 🙂
