Maybe a daft question, but I have snapped mine and need a replacement. Does the replacement have to be specific to the make of Derailleur? Or, are they all pretty much the same, if different colours, makes, weights etc??

Cheers for any advice!

Hangers are specific to the frame, some are pattern parts that are shared between several models or brands, others are propriety to the frame.

PS if you don't know the answer, then it's not a daft question in my book. The only daft thing is not to ask!

Buy 3 & keep one with you in your kit for long rides.

Last year, Shimano introduced a "direct mount" rear derailleur hanger. It eliminates the B2 link on the Shadow derailleurs. Some new bikes come with these mounted, and they won't work with a SRAM derailleur at all. You'd need to buy a regular hanger to switch to a SRAM.

So yes, some hangers are derailleur specific...
