Anyone using the above cassette?
Thinking of replacing the 11-42 XT cassette on my hard tail with one, mainly because it's cheaper than the 11-46t XT that I was going to put on.
I appreciate that its heavy in comparison but I'm not fussed about that as I could do with shifting some body weight more than dropping it off the bike.
So how are people finding them?
Guessing wear rate is pretty good as it's all steel.

I have one, from Aliexpress £47 delivered within a couple of weeks.

About 5 rides on it, seems great so far.

Previously ran GX Eagle 10-50 12sp

Due to change of wheels (DT 350 came with shimano freehub) I'm now running:

New Deore 11-51 11 speed cassette £47
New Deore M6100 12 speed rear derailleur (I bounce them off rocks) £38 also aliexpress
XTR 11 speed shifter (for the double down shifter and shifter feel)
Shimano 11 chain

Works great. The only difference in the new 12 and 11 deore mechs is the "12 speed" printing I think. Only got the 12 as I ran it with gx for a while, I didn't need to pay the extra.

The cassette is not as heavy as I thought it might be, couldn't find a weight but will be more than XT due to dropping alloy cog and one less spider setup. But will last longer, I use the 51 a lot.

Shifting is better than GX I'd say. I do not miss it at all, found it needed attention almost every ride and the mech got sloppy quick, and was very particular about hanger alignment oh and the jockey wheels would seize. Deore is much more tolerant.

Bonus is all the consumables (rear mech, cassette, freehubs, chains) are far far cheaper than 12 equivalents.

I don't miss the 10T. Run a 30T up front for winching up lakes and dales proper steep mountains, super low gear is great as can sit and spin rather then having to stomp on steep bits so get more grip.

No reason not to buy one, they are cheaper than sunrace.

Watching with interest - I'm running an XT M8000 1 x 11 setup, 46t Sunrace cassette with a Goatlink which all runs pretty nicely.

An extra few teeth at the back wouldn't go amiss though so if anyone's got experience of running a similar setup with success, that'd be ace.

Well worth getting a mech with proper capacity than a bodged goatlink setup. I have a goat link setup on my 10 spd bike (11-46) and shifting is far better on my 11spd with proper mech.

@jamesmio

Did you find you needed the Goatlink? I'm running a M8000 mech with 11-46t Sunrace cassette on my Solaris and it's been fine without one. Might come down to hanger/frame geometry though.
Not sure a 50/51t cassette would work without one though.

I'm running a Sunrace 11-50 cassette on an M8000 mech with no issues on my hardtail. No Goatlink. It might work fine with 51t.

Interested whether anyone's put one on the scales?

I've got the long cage XT mech on both my bikes so hopefully it'll work with the 51t.

Any idea on what number length chain?
Was looking at the 118 link KMC - will this be long enough?

I use a 34T chainring with 11-50 Sunrace on an XL Scandal and 116 link chain works fine for me (SLX mech). I didn't even realise this new cassette existed, and will be trying it next time I need to change.

On my second, 1st replaced under warranty as the rivets on the largest 3 sprockets came loose. Other than that it works perfectly & doesn't have the annoying ratio jumps that the 11-46 has

wzzzz

Due to change of wheels (DT 350 came with shimano freehub) I’m now running:

Bit late now but ... mine came with XD and converted it so have the spares

TBH it was a no brainer as I wasn't paying more for the cassette and mech than a set of wheels...

Early indications are that it's heavy as **** but you probably wanted something more precise...

621g Inc the lockring. I removed the plastic transportation holder.

621 grams!!!!  Christ, gone are the days of 260g cassettes...  That's getting on for a pound of extra rotating mass, dangling off the end of the swingarm!  In fairness deore cassettes were never that light, but we're certainly half that in 9 speed flavour.

Nice one Spin, got there in the end.

That's about 160g more than my current Sunrace cassette (10-46t), so I reckon I'll stick rather than twist.

Is the lockring steel or aluminium?  Higher end cassettes used to come with alloy ones, which were substantially lighter than those that came with cheaper cassettes.

It's not going to make much difference to the average trail bike.

Been running one on my Banshee Rune for a couple of months, definitely worth getting the M5100 derailleur to go with it because they're dirt cheap too.
Really like the extra range for a heavy bike, i'm too scared to weigh it.

Thanks all.
Kept checking prices over the weekend to see if I could get it cheaper.
Ordered today so hopefully get it all sorted in the next couple of weeks.

Slight hijack but there's a fair bit of talk about mech capacity on here (although a number don't say whether running a medium or long cage mech). I'm running an 11-46 cassette, 36t chainring (ebike, I'm not that hard) on a 160mm travel FS bike with 445mm stays with a medium cage GS XT mech. Couple of times recently whilst using the 46t the mech has lost tensioning and let the chain go slack. Each time it has recovered later after washing (been on muddy rides too). Can't say I'm an expert on mech capacity but I'm guessing this is a pretty good indication I'm asking too much of it? Doesn't seem anything wrong with the clutch mechanism when adjusting on the stand but suspect I'll kill it soon like this.

Which is pretty much irrelevant as the moment is proportional to the radius and even a monster 51T is pretty small compared to a wheel...

11-51 requires M5100 mech I think cos of the range. Though not sure whether that’s cos the older wide range ones DONT work or just haven’t been tested
