Looking for Deluxe shock - which comes on the Chisel FS comp (and some of the Epics too).

Trying to find a used one at 190x40 is proving to be a challenge. I doubt I'd find one taken off an Epic (which would have the right tune)... but I do see various Sidluxe 190x40 shocks for sale.

Are they not as well regarded? Seems a bit odd that they're being taken off new bikes. Do I avoid, and stick to my original plan?

I may be wrong, but I had the feeling 190x45 is the more common size - and maybe shocks get reduced to 40mm stroke internally?

Good point - I have been eyeing up some 190x45s... but it would be nice to get hold of a 190x40 with the right tune out of the box.

Else, it has to be a very good deal so that I can send it in to get sorted.

Pretty sure as @chakaping says they're just 190x45 shocks with travel reducers BUT the issue is with Rock Shox shocks is that they have the sag marks printed on the damper body / shaft so you can theoretically buy the more common 190x45 and have the travel limited but the sag marks will be incorrect.

If you do just opt for a 45, merlin have a cheap fox factory for £274

I don't think you can get travel reducers for the Fox ones sadly, I'm also after a new shock for my Chisel (on the basis that I don't expect a good lifespan from the stock X-Fusion seeing as no-one seems to service them in the UK)

@Oms if this is any use one of the German sites (Bike24) has a new one left - https://www.bike24.com/p2642398.html?searchTerm=rock+shox+deluxe+ultimate&source=Spock&objectId=642398&userToken=2557466f-6d15-4f0a-8da2-e2de57c59e49&sku=2188379

Not sure what import fees would be as its over the £130 limit.

@momo

We can either get together to do a 'group' buy of air can & damper seals (splitting the rediculous shipping charges)...

...or another option, is SIDLuxe shocks which are going pretty cheap (though they are XC focussed, and might not be as trail oriented as Deluxe shocks). Problem is the minimum order amount on this site - I certainly don't want to order two:

I paid about duties circa £80 for my SIDs when they arrived in the UK - ended up costing me £420 in total which wasn't too bad.

But what I don't get is is why I had to pay that - they are sold by a US company, but are manufactured in the East. They were are only shipped from Germany to my house.

It's all a bit of a monte-python sketch if you ask me. 😂

I have the SID luxe on my Epic Evo and apart from the compression tune being a bit light for my 100kg dad bod, it’s a very good shock. I was happily riding the red enduro trails on it at my local spot this morning and keeping up with my mate on his Amflow.

I think people replace them with remote lock out versions or shock with more external adjustment for compression. Mine is only either open or locked. If you can find one at a good price, I don’t think you’ll go far wrong.

Thanks. 👍

I'll definitely get cracking with that then. My forks have a 2p remote lockout, so I'll keep an eye out for one of those.

Thanks - got a brand new SIDLuxe 'take off' at a steal, with 2p remote lockout to match the fork. I'll send it in to TFTuned who'll set it up for the bike.

It'll take a few weeks, but hoping to give some feedback once it's on the bike.
