You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've just got approval to get a bike on cyclescheme, and on Friday I seemed to have 2 options.
A 2020 Orbea Occam, or a Trek Fuel EX 8 XT.
The local trek store in Bristol said they had pre-ordered 2 of the latter, so on Saturday morning I went into the store and put my name down on the last one.
They sent me an invoice and said its all done, and to bring my voucher in nearer the time.
Then I got a call from the manager at lunchtime saying they'd double sold the bike, and I wasn't going to get it. Plus its September until I can get another.
Of course mistakes happen but I'm so pissed off with this, and since then the Occam I was looking at has sold too.
So I'm totally out of options, unless someone knows of a dealer who has pre-ordered some bikes?
I was looking at the Trek Fuel EX8 XT in Large, or the Occam in Large, with XT/SLX.
Would also consider a Marin Rift Zone 3 or similar bike.
Budget is up to 2900, can anyone help?
Sonder cortex with a nice cane creek build?
Hi,
I phoned just over a hundred Orbea dealers last month looking for a bike.
PM me if you want to know which ones had stock left. I was mainly looking for M10s but may have noted a couple that had the cheaper ones.
Cheers
Eg We cycle had a large H20 according to my notes.
Alpha Cycle works ditto.
I won't listen the others in case some gazzumps you, but I've noted
A large black 2021 M10
Another M10
Another shop that mentioned h30s in stock.
A large M30 in stock
Some more m30s on order
Another M30 with fork upgrade
Another h20
After an H20 as its Shimano, but got to accept cyclescheme voucher or I'm shafted.
Checked we cycle website and none listed on there... Will ring tomorrow.
Would be very interested in your list, mate. Perhaps you could PM me.
So frustrating!
This might be of interest. Large 2021 Occam at Pedals in Edinburgh. There are some framesets available as well if a complete bike isn't essential.
As above, complete bike on CycleScheme is essential
Singletrack should do a lockdown issue; bikes and kit one can actually buy.
@Lucky7500 You sir, are a ****ing legend. This one is physically in stock and now flagged as mine.
They don't do protection, but sell accessories.
So far my list is:
Spare mech hanger
Invisiframe
Bottle cage
Mud guards
Anything I should add? I've got some V12s to throw on
I was wondering why you didn't like the pedals option. Looks like you hadn't seen it.
🙂
Splendid. I got mine from pedals too
No problem. I've had a couple of bikes from Pedals including my Rallon and use them for servicing as well. They are really good guys. I thought I remembered being told they had some physical stock last time I was in!
Lucky, was it took you that suggested Pedals to me about two months ago for the Occam?
Pedals do invisframe fitting. Mate got his transition from them all fitted up nice.
+1 for pedals being a great bunch
While some brands are Sep 2021 for stock, others are now Jan 2022… and here’s the thing… wait ‘till they arrive and you will not get one… hunt down the last dribblings of stock… or look ahead, choose now, reserve now, wait patiently.
That's bloody ridiculous! It's hard enough deciding which bike to buy now, never mind what my requirements might be in 12 months!

Split Link and tubeless stuff if needed, maybe the One Up EDC tool in the steerer as they sell it.
I spent two months waiting for the work approved cycle scheme website vendor to get some hardcore hardtails in so I could have one for the winter, when I got back in touch after two months they really had no idea when anything would be coming in!
Next year(s) will be buying what shops have not what you want, or paying up front and waiting a long time!
Makes me wanna build a stash up of spare parts!
I found a bike in Germany that I wanted in stock, and just after that my work increased their C2W limit to £3k. I discounted the idea of returning this bike and ordering a new one on C2W and getting an upgrade for the same outlay, but after reading this I'm now confident I made the right decision not to.
This is a nice Christmas story

Made that mistake, waiting for things to come into stock, only to find they never do because they've sold already or are delayed.
It's crazy times isn't it. Due to Covid there's no bikes available to purchase, and due to Covid (redundancy) I have money for a new bike!
But I placed an order with Bird, frames due in January so hopefully I'll have a new bike day not too far into the new year. Can't wait!
It's crazy at the minute as others have said. I ordered my Spur before it was even released and was nothing more than internet whispers and still had to wait 4 months for the thing! Basically, be prepared to ring every dealer who stock the bike/brand or be prepared to wait a long old time.

Many thanks! Its a bit mad but not too bad for companies like ours. Some parts are now over a years lead time, others more like normal x 2. If you're a bit more nimble like we are and have more than 1 supplier for each component as we normally do, you can make it work. More FS bikes are arriving this month (300 or so frames arriving - not all sold 😉 ) and we have new HTs launching in spring too. Lead times are a little higher than we'd like but thats mainly down to volume of sales rather than waiting on parts.
Going to be an interesting year!
and we have new HTs launching in spring too.
Oooh interesting, can you reveal more?
That’s bloody ridiculous! It’s hard enough deciding which bike to buy now, never mind what my requirements might be in 12 months!
Scaremongering innit.
There will be bikes to buy next year, just maybe not a few models from brands that got it wrong about demand.
Like, pretty much all of them....
It's insane really.
I kinda narrowed the next bike down to a Hard tail XC 29r.
Hee haw available. Fancied a BMC Twostroke haha nae chance.
Some were quoting next Sept for availability. (Trek mainly)
Orange have pretty much closed their books as well.
Its not a shortage of stock thats the issue. Its the ability to get the parts together at the assembly plant at the same time thats really the killer. One key thing late and you're knackered. These dates are long to allow for the longest lead times.
Its easier for me. I carry 2-10 viable products per component on the bike, so as long as I have 1 or more for each item we can build bikes. 2/3/4 and we're able to meet most people's expectations. More than that and we're in good shape!
I'm in the same boat. Looking about to get a Full Sus bike which can do NYM, Yorkshire Dales, Local bike parks. I was looking at staying local, rather than mail order but there's very little in! Choice in stock at moment is a 2020 Cannondale Habit Carbon, a Calibre Sentry or a Specialized Status 160. I like them but not sure if they are the best choices for my requirements and budget (approx £2.5k) with 2 being enduro and the Cannondale being slightly above budget and not widely appreciated.
Next plan is to be disappointed with looking at all mail order trail bikes being out of stock as well!
It's no wonder the 2nd hand market is fairly bouyant at present.
James from Pedals here, thanks for the kind words. It's not that there are no bikes available, but for us at least it's full suspensions under 3k that are the issue. We have plenty of great stuff available, it's just generally all custom built. Really good to see folk like Ben planning well and keeping the Bird availability good 👍
Forbidden Druids, loads of Guerrilla Gravity frames some now more in Jan, our own Project DC (like a Spur), really decent stock of Banshees, a few Chromag frames, some Pipedreams both HT and FS, even a few Transition Scouts and shhh... Some free stock of Sentinels next week (ish)
We have built up a decent base of build kits and forks so have loads ready to build, just little off the peg. I am going to be riding the Druid over Xmas and really looking forward to it.
Many thanks!

After reading nothing but positive reviews the AM9 was top of the list 👍
*Crosses fingers that AM9s are in the batch due soon* 🤞🤞🤞
