Nipping out in a mo, but I need to ask.
Deep dish road rims. They are heavy and are all about momentum, is that correct?
So for a racer like me that is more often responding to other peoples pace or attacks. Or finds himself on a stop start CX course, the advantage of discs can't be put to use.
So my logic tells me that a good lightweight 'normal' wheelset would suit me better.
Does this make sense?
Back in ten.

Oldgit I don't know about other peoples thoughts but personally I hate them on a cross bike. Braking is compromised over standard rims. And the rims are heavier.

My race wheels are king r45 hubs on mavic tub rims and cx ray spokes. Circa 1200 grams and bombproof. Built with fmb super prestige rubber....

I think your money is best spent on awesome rubber. Nowt compares to fmb. And I include dugast in that!

That said for flat speed tracks I would not mind a cheap set. But owt with a lot of braking in think they would be poop!

And before I get flamed for saying carbon rim braking don't compare to normal wheels i own a set of 303s and 404s for racing on the road! Both are firecrests.

In my road races I find myself in the second group, in a race within a race. Attacks are always on the climbs, isn't that light stiff wheel territory?
And in cross I'm quite a way down, certainly not out front constantly winding up the pace.

The insurance company told me last week that they want to settle, hence why I'm now asking.
In the frame are Neutron Ultras, Dura Ace and Ksyrium? SLs

I know this is a blindingly muppetty question, but I've never ever ridden deep rims and I wonder why they are held in such great esteem. Or is it like the old Carbon frame at all costs.

Zipp303 tubs for the road are circa 1200grams. There awesome for on the road and what I use 90percent of the time. Sorry thought you ment for cross.

They hold top end speed with reduced effort and a good set are light.

Some shops do try before you buy. May be worth seeing if there are shops near you with such a deal. Hed uk have a similar set up also. There wheels IMO are on par with Zipp and cheaper.

I don't find any negatives using carbon coming out of slow corners etc and getting back up to speed..

... where I do like them is in deep mud/snow/sand as the seem to run alot more stable through the deep stuff.

Other than that I can't shed any light on the deep rim for cross reason ... most of the pro's don't seem to use them.
