You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My 3 pairs of Sombrio Badass shorts have given up after around 10 years' hard use between them - very impressive they were too (£24 per pair!). What's good nowadays for general year-round riding shorts-wise? Looking to spend around £50-ish and they need to be comfy for long days, reasonably tough (but not DH tough) and erring on the long/baggy side. Will consider with or without a liner. Ta.
I recently bought an Endura Pair - Singletrack with Click-fast liners. Expensive, but could get a good deal online. Really well made and a good fit.

I've got a pair of Mavic Crossmax shorts - simple, hard wearing so far, comfy. They replaced much loved Sombrio's also....£40-45 if you hunt around.
Eldest_oab has a pair of Alpinestars that are also of the simple and hard-wearing type, with added stretch panels. He just wears whatever lycra shorts underneath.
As s fellow Sombrio shorts lover I also use Endurance Singletrack. They’re equally as well made
I have two pairs of the new Nukeproof Rad shorts and reckon they're cracking, about the longest inseam I've found too ( and i have bought loads and returned). Stretchy, comfy, quiet. I have a pair of Large for sale which are a bit too big, I'd put them at a 36-38", I bought the same again in medium.
The Morvelos are really nice but they aren't at all long - ordered some but had to return them
Madison.
Do the nukeproof ones go fully over the knee?
I’m with NoBeer on this
Madison Zenith
I love mine, I’d go out to dinner in them if my would let me
I,m liking my Alpkit ones worth a punt got mine in their sale!
Endura Hummvee just do the job nicely and affordably.
Madison - Zenith, Flux (warmer) or Roam (smarter).
Cha****ng - depends on how tall you are obviously but I have a 36" inseam and they sit on the knee, still could do with being a touch longer for pedalling but they are still longer than mistvotgets including Fox freeride, Madison Flux, Morvelo RAD, Alpinestars Drop, Northwave something or other (freeride type), Royal something or other. Basically the longest i could find in any given range
Interesting how lots are saying the Endura Humvees, mine are 2 years old and I've had to get the stitching replaced on the arse area twice now as they have worn out. The material is fine though, plenty of life in it. Might be the gritty crap I ride in but if I get more than a year out of any shorts without having them repaired it's a miracle.
I've had various Endura in the past, but tired of the random sizing and have now settled on Race Face shorts. They're usually cheap-ish in the sales, fit me better and quality feels better/more consistent. I think I've got are their Indy, Ambush and the waterproof Agent ones.
thanks davosauous - I had been eyeing them 'cos they looked longer than most, might grab some when they go on a big discount
Madison.. Roam (smarter).
Not very long those. I got some in the Cycle Surgery sale the other week. I've worn them loads! Not on the bike yet though 🙂
RaceFace are about the best (and longest) shorts I have. Trigger or Indy.
@davosaurusrex - don't suppose you have a measurement for the inseam on those Nukeproofs as they sound interesting. My usual go-to for long comfy shorts have historically been Dakine 8-tracks as they have the 16" inseam.
I rather rate the RaceFace Ambush shorts.
Good fit, tough, don't get hot, and don't get caught on the saddle nose like stretchy material shorts do
