I've bought an older frame for my lad to get for Christmas... I plan to build it up for the big reveal on Christmas morning, but trying to find a half decent, straight steerer, 26" wheels, 140mm fork is proving quite the task... are any of the aliexpress offerings worth considering?

Failing that, does anyone have anything they'd be willing to sell?!

I used to have a lovely Rockshox Revalation that would fit the bill... alas long gone

I think you can get Rockshox Silver and Gold 30 forks in straight steerer 26" versions.

This sort of thing

There are a fair amount of forks on ebay - thing is back in the straight steerer, 32mm stanchion days, not many had 140mm travel. They weren't really stiff enough. I've still got my old Fox Vanilla 26ers but they're 130mm. Blimmin good forks though 🙂

I have a 2008 Revelation, straight steerer, 100-130mm u turn you can have. I've been saving it as a spare for a few years since it was last serviced. The service showed a bit of stanchion wear but it performs fine. I'm finally acknowledging that I will never use it, even looking for a good home for my beloved Super light cos I never ride it. The idea of a young lad getting something out of my old kit sounds perfect. Send me a DM if you're interested

Manitou Sherman

Any use? Alternatively, could you get a 27.5 fork?

What headset does the frame take? If it has an internal headset, it should take an external 1.5" lower cup and you could fit a tapered steerer fork. That would let you fit pretty much any 27.5" fork.

If it can't take a tapered fork, it might be better to just sell the frame and buy something that can take a tapered fork. If you really want to keep the frame, a used RS Rev or Pike is obvious. Buying new, the higher end Suntour forks are reasonable.

I used a pair of Marzocchi Z150s on my old MTB tandem, so long travel forks did exist, but finding them will be the hard part

@thols2 it's a 2009 orange 5... looking at it, you may be right about sacking off the idea of this specific frame

Surely there are loads of decent - i.e. not potentially crap stuff from the other side of the world - forks on eBay that'll work? I found plenty with a quick search.

I have marzocchi 44s on my old blur, theyre 150mm.
But I want to put my marzocchi 350 on there, so 27.5 on the front, but I need to figure out the headset.
Any reason not to go mullet with these frames?

very good forks too.

Also you can fit a 27.5 fork as they are practicallly the same as 26

Problem solved... I collected the frame this evening and the seller said, do you need a fork? He had a vanilla fox that came with it when new, in fantastic condition... for not very much money... job done 👍🏻

I’ve got some 150mm Marzocchi Z1s from about 2008 (I think), straight steerer, open bath, looked after and not abused.
based in Exeter.

This is good.  I've got some 2007 Vanillas that are still going strong.

May be worth investing a few £ in some oil, foam wipers and seals and giving them an overhaul.  Mine had a compromised seal so had a bit of the leg coating worn off inside.

Nice result.
only issue with the old vanillas was the delicate stanchion coatings. Its very easy to service them, so keep em lubed 😊
