Right, sniffing around for a new bike and the 2015 Canyon Spectral Al 29 looks amazing VFM and by all accounts (well, the reviews I've found via Google) is a cracking ride, too. The top tube appears to be a little longer these days (it's about 23.4 inches) too so I reckon the size M will fit me just fine. I ride XC-ish trail around Surrey (and Swinley of course).

Check it: http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=3603

Anyone got one or ridden a mate's? Wild opinion based on nothing in particular? All welcome...

What, 1 hour and opinions about this bike? I don't believe it...

Dunno about the 29er but I'm looking at the 650b. Absolutely bonkers VFM. I've already got the Canyon DH bike and this is very tempting.

My DH bike has been superb. 800 miles and all I've needed was new rear wheel bearings and a bottom bracket.

I quite fancy the Inflite Cx bike myself.

I like the metallic ginger colour this year. They look great VFM. I'd buy one if I wanted that sort of thing.

Looks like a great bike, is it maybe more trail-enduro rather than XC-trail? Have you considered the Nerve or Lux?

It looks nice and good vfm but I could never spend that amount of money and not want to try it out first and actually pick something out of a shop/showroom.

I'm about to confirm my order, I am thinking large for me at 180cm tall, how tall are you rhayter?

I'm basing this on test riding a Whtye T130 in medium which felt tiny and T129scr in medium which felt ok but possible a bit short compared to what I'm used to.

Loved the T129 so hoping the Specteral has a similar feel but with a bit more travel, I found that it gave so much confidence that I was hitting everything much harder and that a bit of extra bounce might be useful.

@mimmie: I'm 175cm (just under 5'10") so I'm still thinking a size M. I'm normally a M, I find – Yeti, Trek, Intense, Ellsworth... all medium.

@teadrinker: I know what you mean... it is a worry. Maybe someone on the Forum lives in Surrey and has a 2014 model that I can throw a leg over round a car park... Anyone?

@YoKaiser: Lux was waaaaaay too hardcore XC for me. Am also looking at the Nerve, but something about the Spectral just screams "buy me"...

@YoKaiser: Also the Spectral has a considerably longer top tube than the Nerve, which I want...

I have a 2014 Spectral 7.9. Absolutely love it, climbs brilliantly and descends much faster than I can push it. Components are all very good, nothing I would want to change. Although I can imagine it would be even better with a Pike rather than the Performance Fit float that mine came with.

I'm 181cm all with an 86cm inseam. The large fits great which was my main concern as the online calculator put me on a medium. If you're confident with the sizing then go for it, you won't be disappointed. The lead time on them is huge so get the order in ASAP!

Thanks phy7tes, that's useful. You're a 6-footer then. A good deal taller than me. But I think I'm going to have to go to a Canyon-sponsored event to check one out...

The online calculator seems to be a bit off - from what I've read online it usually underestimates size. Ie if it recommends medium, consider a large.

I haven't looked at the Spectral 29er but the 650b version has a relatively short top tube so I'd be tempted to go a size up anyway. I would imagine at 5'10 you'd be on the cusp of M or L. I'm sure either would be fine.

Why the 29er? Isn't that a bit 2012? 😛

Mimmiethecat, what did you find do small about the T130, the top tube length? Just general breathing room?
