thanks to all my knobs falling off my wreck it ralphs on the td-1 i need some new tires for a trip next month l along side last months thread about 26" enduro tires.... which culminated in some WTB vigilantes i hadn't considered after some advice on here - which have been quite nice.
looking for something like a spesh fast track or a WTB nano. Fast rolling , dont need super grippy all out speed/comfort is more important for the use of this bike. A wider front tire would be good as its rigid but its not a + fork - room for upto about a 2.5
Any left field options I may not have considered that are bargainous ? - not a crossmark though as previous experiance with them is their inability to shed mud in the gloop - where as fast traks/nanos just dont seem to hold onto it the same and perform better than they should in the mud (albe it still not great but crossmarks were just shit)
Further to Kryton's suggestion, I've currently got a Mezcal 2.6" on the front of my hardtail. Seems fast rolling considering the size - it's appreciably bigger than the Bonty XR 2.35" tyres I've had on the front before now. I've only used it in the current dry conditions so no idea on how it performs in more typical UK mud. Went up tubeless very easily.
Not looked at tyres recently, but I've got some WD40 to help with your wallet 🙂
Terrene Elwood 40mm "tough" for £25 at DFS?
Panaracer Gravelking SKs 32/35/38/43mm for £27 each at https://www.merlincycles.com/panaracer-gravel-king-sk-folding-tyre-700c-90671.html ?
Wd40 pah. Plus gas didn't even work.
Cheers kryton that's the sort of stuff I'm looking at Vitoria didn't make MTB tires last time I bought tires 🙂
Do Elwood's /gravelkings come in a model with the rest of the tire 😉 🙂
Planet X usually have a few Vittoria 29er tyres for around a tenner. The non TNT ones usually go up tubeless pretty easily too.

The Mezcal and Barzo particularly have enjoyed a successful renaissance recently. I swapped from Schwalbe after recommendations from here and they are much higher quality IMO, stronger and have a more progressive level of better grip.
and have a more progressive level of better grip
🙂
Aren't Vittoria what used to known as Geax? Had some 26" Mezcals and they were very good and very cheap from OO.
Cheapest 'full dollar' are Specialized generally - I have a Purgatory and a Control on at the moment, sufficiently worn to make it not worth getting anything faster for summer. Have been good value, 2bliss and lasted well.
brass neck this is slowely the conclusion i am coming too .
i know i like fast traks is i used to race them almost exclusively so i may just go for a pair of them , i know they are fast and i know they are predictable - not hugely progressive though 😉
wiggle have some WTB rangers in 2.25 and 2.0 for 20 quid a piece. Not super race light tyres but lots of volume and grip - fast rolling too. Been very impressed by the light high grip on the front over summer.
Pretty much the same thread I was going to start in about a weeks time, so thanks 🙂
Think I'll go for some of those Barzo myself. Finding the current Raceking 2.2s a tad soft in the sidewall when running tubeless. Anything under 30psi and they fold and squirm!
I like maxxis for big fast tyres. A big ikon on the back is brilliant if you have the room, although now they've done a proper sized aspen I'd probably go with that- it was one of my favourite 26 tyres. If it's good enough for Nino...
I do like the look of those rangers though
Hutchinson Skeleton ? Race dday tyre but very light , might only go up to 2.1 or 2.2 though . Good value last time I looked
I've got a non tnt Barzo set up tubeless on my 29er. Great tyre, like a RoRo but better. Saguaro tnt on back which is not light but rolls very fast.
