The Commencal Meta AM 29 2021 strangely gets my juices flowing. I don't really know why that bike in particular, it just does. It's probably more bike than I need but since I got my gravel bike for putting the miles in, I'm less bothered about that than I used to be (when I got my Jeffsy and not a Capra, for example).
I love my Jeffsy, and in reality I probably won't change it any time soon (2017 bike, IIRC, upgraded with carbon wheels, cane creek coil shock and helm coil fork @ 150 - to give you an idea what I've got now).
So is there anything else that is more dreamy than that Commencal and should be on my day dreaming list?
Nice as the Commencal is, for me it would be the new Transition Sentinel. Granted I have a Spur so I do like the brand, but the Sentinel is a serious bit of kit, it actually pedals really well and feels quite lively and fun, was pleasantly surprised as on paper I would say barge-like, but it feels way more agile than the geometry, particularly the near 63 degree head angle would suggest. Not cheap, but they are nicely specced for the money without superfluous carbon bits stuck on just for a bit of spec sheet wow factor. Everything is solid, works well and money is spent where you want it on the brakes and suspension.
Meta 29 would be on my list, were it not for my next bike having to have a motor 🙂
Cracking looking bike.
If you liek the Meta AM 29, but you're worried it might be too much bike, surely the Meta TR 29 is ideal and you can buy it immediately without worry?
For me, the Raaw Madonna is a dream machine. I think they look awesome and seem to be well received. Annoyingly i have zero use for such a 'big' bike. Although the upcoming Jibb trail bike might make me part with my much loved Norco Optic.
I'm in the same boat but for me it's the Meta TR. There's something about Commencal at the minute, they all look mint.
My personal ultimate combo would be the Supreme DH 29er and the Meta e-bike but I don't have a spare 12 grand or whatever so I'll settle for this.

I really don't need one and I haven't ridden at all in 2020. My current bike is perfect but I've never had big wheels and fancy something a little more sprightly on local trails. I think the Meta may still be a little porky and I might be better going more traily, maybe carbon.

Good call... drooling at it now.

Yeah. I'm sure this is probably right, but it feels even less of a difference from my Jeffsy than the AM does. I think my mind was drawn to the AM because it's "different enough" from my Jeffsy that I could justify day-dreaming about it 🙂

Agreed, it's the straight lines in the tubes I think.
Are you having another bike as well as your Jeffsy OP?
Will you be riding rugged trails on it?

It'd be in place of the Jeffsy and if I got a bigger bike then I might get rid of the DH bike too. Gravel and MTB only.
Reasonably rugged, the faster rolling stuff I use my gravel on nowadays, so I probably wouldn't mind that it doesn't pedal so well.
This is, of course, all just day dreaming, though.
Personally I wouldn't have the Meta AM as my only MTB unless I lived somewhere like the Tweed Valley.
Even then the TR might be more enjoyable a lot of the time.
Just got my long awaited Sentinel from the lovely lads at Pedals Bike Care in Edinburgh. Hope to ride it this weekend...
I’ve a 2021 meta am, it’s amazing! Handles steep South Wales off piste, Scottish steeps and fod equally well. I even clock up local cotswold miles as it climbs well for a big bike. The tr would be more than enough bike for me I imagine but it wasn’t in stock when I needed to buy a frame set when my last frame cracked. I have just built a 140mm hardtail to help on non ‘big’ days but I normally just end up riding the hardtail on the same stuff as the meta. Depending on your local riding the tr might fit better but that’s up to you!
I would have loved a sentinel but the frame was literally double the price of my meta!
Just can’t justify that
Having done a Peak loop on my Inbred with rigid carbon fork in the summer and enjoying it much more than I expected, I am quite tempted to get rid of my full sus & replace it with a trail hardtail.
Although given the mix of riding I have been doing for the last few years, I would actually get a lot more use out of a gravel/adventure road bike.
I keep looking at the Rondo Ruut with the 2x drivetrain as it would probably see quite a lot of road use.

I should really enquire at work about Bike to Work scheme....
If we're doing our own daydream bikes, I had very vague thoughts about one of these for my "big bike".

A 180mm rear travel 29er super-enduro/freeride sled that pedals well would be fun, but since I already have a 170mm rear travel 29er that pedals well enough, I'll leave it as a daydream for now.
I always day dreamed over bikes as I was never fully happy with how my bike fitted me and rode when I was riding stuff, felt like it held me back. I'd always look at the new releases and ponder upgrading.
I bit the bullet in November 2020 and got a long, slack and low 29 170mm Enduro weapon and absolutely love it, new bike syndrome has seen me ride more this winter then others, with the bike allowing me to ride some of the places how I wished I could have before.
I'm also on a 2017 Jeffsy, the 27.5 version and have been daydreaming about a Sentinel for a while now. I demoed the old Sentinel a couple of years ago and it blew me away, gave me so much more confidence and I had so much fun with it. Maybe later this year I'll bite the bullet, we'll see!
