Currently on Davos, having a great time. Leaving tomorrow...
We planned to do the alps epic tomorrow but the 2nd half of jakobhorn lift is closed meaning a big old climb to start.

We don't fancy the climb but can access the 2nd half from Glaris and the riner lift. Does anyone know if it would still be worth doing? We have covered a lot of trails here and a lot of distance (i know there is still loads more!)
Any knowledge / tips would be great
Thanks

Trailforks and/or ask a local.

All I know is that it's a great place for proper wild mountain riding, not your typical bikepark style stuff. If you book the right Hotel then your liftpass is included for free and you need only pay to take your bike on the gondolas.

Hi. I've done the Alps Epic twice and really enjoyed it. Yes, the section from the top of Jacobshorn down to the valley is maybe the highlight in terms of the actual trail and scenery. But for us it was all about doing a point to point ride and catching the train back (after a few beers at the station).

I'd probably do it anyway, maybe try and find something off the lower Jacobshorn lift - they were building trails there 2 or 3 years ago when I last went. And isnt there a bike specific trail on the otherside of the valley down to somewhere near Glaris, maybe you could incorporate that into the start of the ride after taking the funi up?

There was also a bit of an ambiguous choice of routes somewhere above Monstein. Maybe ask for some up to date local advice (or Trailforks) so you know what do do when you get there.

And...keep a little bit in reserve for the climb up to the station at the end. I stayed on the road last time, just to make it a little easier.

We're probably going to Davos in September, do you know if that lift is closed for the season?

I concur with @agentdagnamit, worth doing without the Jacobshorn descent as long as you're hoping for an epic day in the mountains rather than outstanding riding. We did it in 2019 and always say it was one of our best days out even if the trails weren't particularly exciting. If you get the timing right you can get an old school train back to Davos!

Agree with the oddness above Monstein, but it’s good fun when you find it!

Also agree that there’s plenty of good riding even without the top Jacobshorn lift.

insider tip on the train back from Filisur: if weather is ‘not warm’, avoid sitting in the open top carriages unless you have appropriate clothing. Bloody freezed our nuts off doing that on one rather damp trip. May be obvious to others…

Just finished the alps epic from Glaris.
Fun, but not as amazing as other trails in Davos. I probably wont/won't rush to do it next time. If i did it again i would finish at Wiesen instead of filisur.
We had 3 days here, based near Kublis. We planned our riding on the last 2 days around 2 bahnentours from herbertbike. They included a lot of trails not on the maps which was good. We finished the first 2 days with long trails down into kublis, they were dar better than the alps epic in my opinion. This trip is part of a big trip so not spending long anywhere, will be back for a week another time.
Happy to share any gpx with anyone of the big routes we did.

@agentdagnamit the lift is "not guaranteed" before Sept...

Found a fun black run out of Monstein via trail forks rather than the blue

Thanks. Hopefully open when we get there.

You can also use local taxis to get up towards Fluela pass (Pischca ridge?) Another ride I enjoyed.

Did you camp?

I didn't see your post in time, otherwise I would have warned you off the Epic trail. If it didn't have the name, or the badge, I don't think anyone would ride it. Many better trails in the valley, and looks like you sampled some of the best in your first 2 days.

I still think it's a good ride, and less ramblers in the summer than the trails off the funi

Being point to point makes it feel different and you see more of the valley.

Glad you enjoyed your time out there Matt. If you could share GPX that would be great. Spent a few days there previously but keen to explore some new routes.
