Oh and riding in fresh powder is awesome, didn't hurt myself despite using an i-beam and falling off more than I've ever done in one ride.

How much fun was that?.....LOTS!!!

Just about thawed out, some cracking photo's Bagpuss. The Smallacombe 'cresta' run was hilarious and so much fun.

Great ride.

The long shots look great and I like the shot of Bagpuss showing off his awesome drifting skills 😆 I notice that Anna seemed the only one with any degree of control and composure.

Best off had to be the first one when Si slightly misjudged the depth of his landing spot. Pure class.

Tim - there's a pattern to those photo's... only Anna is able to actually ride in the snow.

I'm even more extremely, uncontrolably, soo envious. My whole weekend's being wasted by childcare commintments & domestic chores. There were no takers for the monthly Dartmoor full-moon night ride last night either, it would have been a brilliant night for it but I wasn't going to do it by myself! Shinythings U liteweight, you could've shoe-horned another moorland ride into your Saturday 😉

And Crispybacon, don't bother posting any your photos of today's Dartmoor excursion 'cos I don't handle jealousy particulary well 😉

The shots Shinythings took of me eating snow, ahem, didn't come out 😳
Funniest thing was all the snow sticking out of Si's helmet from his multiple snowdrift inspections.
Knottie - about 60/40 riding/walking I guess. We're off up there again today, walking the dog rather than the bikes!

Mendips was very similar today - lots more pushing than riding!

Hey Tim - hold your breath next time, will help with that foggy lens.

And you're not spared the snow eating either

That's better, I knew there were some demonstrating Tims balletic prowess 😆

Slugwash- I really didn't think conditions would be enjoyable and I feel beaten up now. However, we have lots more snow and freezing to come, so how about wednesday? Anybody else? all welcome. You know it makes sense 😉

Yes Snaps, I think I mentioned it to you. Will keep you posted, all depends on weather really. If frozen, I quite fancy Hameldown?

Slugwash please look away now!!

Anyway here a few pics from today's foray onto Dartmoor. We didn't have the deep snow that Si & Bagpuss had yesterday but it was still an eventfully ride especially where there were drifts

Well we went back up onto the moor today, without the bikes. Friends with a 4wd drove us up from Ashburton. That road up is ony passable with a 'proper' 4wd - we had to tow a 'pretend' Audi 4wd estate thing off a mid-road drift. The Haytor road up from Bovey to Widecombe appears to be passable, with care. Huge piles of snow at the sides where the snow ploughs have been through.

If we do get more snow and freezing weather over the next few days, I don't think getting anywhere near Hameldown to ride a bike will be an option. Our walk from Bonehill to Chinkwell Tor was through snow 1ft deep with 3ft drifts everywhere, much like yesterday on the Haytor tramways. Great fun but hard work after yesterdays ride/push 🙂 Complete white-out at times, with massive drifts around the rocks.

Once the thaw starts, its going to be very muddy for a long time!

Bovey - Haytor road was closed when we tried to drive up earlier today, so headed up to Haldon instead, plenty of snow there aswell.

I let Simon know about the new Cresta run and I think him and Neil have gone up this afternoon to give it a go. Hopefully they will report back.

Hmmm,if drifting a problem then maybe Redlake may be good for a night ride as it is a stone tramway. Trouble is you need somewhere steep to overcome the drag.

Ditto- it's gonna be a complete mess thru February.

Check out the shot of Neil demonstrating the correct way to approach the Nutcracker 😉 Believe it or not he walked away from it!

ha ha these photos make me quite jealous! i've lived in Devon for almost 20 years and never seen hardly anything snowlike apart from a little on dartmoor!
i'm at uni at the mo in aberystwyth, we've had a bit of the stuff up here but nowhere near as much as the westcountry! have had some good snowy rides though in the past week, my favourite being round Nant yr Arian last monday night when the snow was fresh, probably one of the best rides of my life.
oh well, it'll probly all be gone when i get back to Devon 🙁

managed to get onto the moors, then it started to snow again , we then sat there watching 2 tractors with buckets , trying to clear the road , as quickly as they were clearing it , it was being recoverd again in snow, so we turned around, on way back through mortenhampsted i seen a few MTB riders in the carpark was this you si ?? , any way nice pics, we came back to have a good time on haldon, which still had shed loads of snow , and snowed a bit when we were up there as well , cheers

Jambo,
They are all January pics. Thought everyone would enjoy the Nutcracker shot.
I think the one you mention is Simon having a ball when I took them up to Steel Wood near Bristol. Must get up there again, half of it is just about doable by the likes of me.
