OK, so I know Dartmoor is peppered with trails but my girlfriend and I are planning a MTB holiday to Dartmoor and wondered where the best village etc. to stay is that gives us access to a variety of trails?
Thanks in advance.
somewhere like manaton would give you great access to lustleigh etc.
lustleigh
that sounds like a particularly apt place to holiday with your girlfriend.
north bovey has a nice pub (the ring o bells) you can stay at...

Particularly when it's full name is lustleigh cleave and one of the best descents around is the nutcracker
If you are camping, there is the Plume of Feathers in Princetown.
Are you sorted for routes?
Ring o Bells - North Bovey lovely little village. Good beer and food. Great location for loads of trails. Not sure on prices for accommodation! They have just finished a new garden design at the front, looks wicked.
Excellent, thanks guys.
Not looking to camp this time, so am going to source a B&B.
North Bovey area sounds interesting, though I have a biking mate staying in Okehampton whilst we're there and will likely alternate where we ride out from - Okehampton one, where ever I stay the next and so on...
Nope, have no clue regarding routes - haven't got that far yet so suggestions are very welcome. Please bear in mind that my girlfriend tends to bounce off her face when the trail gets steep and technical, so can you temper any suggestions accordingly?
Cheers.

lustleigh cleave is probably not for her then....
Probably a loop around Princetown then.
Or get her some armour and a full face 🙂
Or this

Dead pitcherskew 🙂
Haha... Ok, so I might have done her a disservice, she's actually quite good.
Good trail recommendations are welcome.
And would you say Princetown is a good place to stay for variety or somewhere else? As said before North Bovey sounds interesting and perhaps offers more forest/wooded trails?
Over to you...
i'd also look at bovey tracey - probably more choice and there's a few pubs to choose from.
princetown 'ok', but i wouldn't recommend staying there TBH. it's a bit 'roysten vasey', and if the weather is iffy it can be bleak as all hell.
the best riding on the moor is in and around lustleigh, and further afield over towards hameldown ridge/grimspound.
last months mag has a route that should give you a flavour, though there are local 'twists' on what they've done....
agree with Bovey, Mortenhapstead also worth checking out, as you're right on the road to head out west towards Princetown, and only 10 mins or so from the Lustleigh routes. if you don't know the area well, the South West Mountain Biking guide book is really quite good.
Have fun!
If you want some routes then pm me - addy in profile - I've got a variety of routes for Dartmoor in GPX format.
When are you guys coming down as I maybe up for a spot of guiding 🙂
