I live in such a place: I have a road bike and a cx bike for local excursions. For mtb, I travel.

Used to, one of the reasons I moved was to be nearer some off road & gradients

I would never, EVER, move to such a place - even if I didn't ride an MTB, I like hills and trees too much

I do both. Swerved the MTB ride this morning in favour of an early quick ride on the road bike. Nobody tried to kill me with their car, so I consider this a good ride...

Excellent fitness benefits riding the road bike as well. Much more concentrated workout

Gravel bike is your friend!

There's no super gnar tech fests around me, but there's loads of epic little lanes linked up with bridleways and farm tracks. It's like going back to what mountain biking used to be, just getting out and exploring.

If it's got two wheels and is human powered it's a win!

+1.

I live in Peterboghorror after being spoiled in Bristol. Tend to use the CX on local easy trails/forests or road bikes for training.

Car+bike= trip to the Beast of the East that is Thetford.

The roadbike is great for finding new cake n' coffee shops!

I have to agree with captainflasheart.
I went out yesterday for 70miler on the gravel bike and all I could do was smile and think that this was the cycling I did as a teenager on my old gold Peugeot Road bike.

No plan, just go and explore. Probably one of the best rides I've done in years.

This is me! Used to live in great MTB area near Swinley/ Surrey Hills, but moved to Norfolk three years ago, you just kinda adapt, i ride road most of the time which has done wonders for my fitness and for me is enjoyable as where i live is quiet and picturesque, i then have a fat bike for the beaches as i am lucky enough to live near Wells next the Sea and Holkham, so can ride for miles on beautiful beaches and a i have a Salsa Fargo for riding bridleways, old railway routes, Sustrans etc that are around me and which i commute on in the winter.

I do miss quality mountain biking, but doesn't stop you riding and you giggle like a school girl when you do get to ride some quality singletrack or a descent on an away trip like it was first time!!
