I do a bit of road riding on my Speccy Allez - Original Wheelset (2006) are Mavic Aksium - whilst not majorly light are OK. I have found recently have excessive flex in teh Fr wheel to the extent that the rims are rubbing the brake blocks when out the saddle going up hill.
I have pinged the spokes and seem to be of reasonable high pitch and the wheel is true! No probs with QR's (as tight as I can get and no probs with play in the hubs)
Options:
New wheelset
or
Tighten spokes - 1/2 turn maybe in my jig to see if that makes any difference.
or change QR's for some MTB ones I have spare (Shimano) to see if that works.
Views anyone? Cheers.
QRs will make no difference.
The spokes are probably just a little loose though if you run your brake blocks very close to the rims, it's not that uncommon for them to rub a tiny bit. Have a look at Sheldon Brown's site as he has full instructions on truing/etc wheels.
Or back your brakes off very slightly so there's more room (depends how close you run them).
It's a pretty common problem, watch pro roadies, they often back their brakes off at the base of major climbs to stop them rubbing.
I'm fine with tunning / wheel building (well still an amateur) but I think I'll give then a tensioning to see if that makes a difference - just wanted to see if other people have 'developed' this problem (with these wheels or other road wheels) as it never used to do this (not so experienced with road wheels). 🙂

I am a bit fitter now than I was a year ago and tend to power the hill out the saddle more now so maybe thats a contributing factor?
Could it be play in the hub bearings?
I don't have aksiums but on all my Mavic wheels you can adjust bearing play with the pin tooth tool supplied with the wheels.
Although the spoke tension on our set was perfect to begin with, it was soon only good and then just fair. They stayed among the most true of all on test, though.
I found with the 2007 ones I'd bought that the wheels stayed 100% true despite potholes and the like (southamptons roads are terrible) but the spoke tension will loosen a little over time, so remember to adjust that.
Quote from bike radar review may shed light on things. @Colenam - No the hubs are fine - sweet and smooth as ever - no play.
