Anyone else doing these?

I've done the Buxton and Holymoorside events so far and have to say i'm really liking them. Next event is on Sunday based at Edale (its gonna be a killer around there!)
Does anyone know if there is a usually summer series of 3hr+ events?
I'm not doing this weekend, but aiming to do some in the near future. Did quite a few of the Scottish ones last year.
I thought they were a little "geeky" at first. However in reality, they are just flat out XC races!
I question the responsibility of taking 200+ riders over properly fragile tracks in the middle of winter tbh
You know which tracks they're using in advance? No fair 😉
I'd imagine 200+ riders is what is expected on any given weekend of the year in the peak district anyway. Besides many of the fragile tracks are marked "out of bounds" anyway. The organises do their homework before hand
Hi Pook, these are score orienteering events which means that the riders dont all follow the same route and very quickly disperse across the trail network. They have been running for many years with very low impact - all good. Try one:-)
I guess they are somewhat different to the big organised events that take place - still, 200 riders setting off from Edale limits the initial paths they are going to hit to say - 4? One of which is easily wrecked in wet weather. I might take part in summer.
r8jimbob88 - so that's by your estimate a 100% increase in the number of riders using the trails in one of the wettest winters we've ever had.
I'm not being a grump - i love events like this, just hope there's some thought gone into the risk of trail erosion what with the current state of the skies.
Best of luck to all involved regardless.
Signed up for the Edale one, did the earlier Hayfield one - think they're great, usually do a few a year. Scottish ones are extremely good, given the access up there.
Not the greatest stretch of weather we're having, like - as long as there's not too much ice on Sunday am I won't mind.
Yes I've done them all this season so far, but I think that they've involved too much mileage on road this year - the Holymoorside one in particular. We've been able to get to most of the controls with only very short sections off-road. I can understand why the muddy / eroded / very narrow bridleways are out-of-bounds, of course...
I like the way I'm forced to explore new areas, but this season I don't think any of the events so far have introduced me to any "new to me" tracks.
But it's always great to see a lot of people out on bikes. Some take it very seriously, others are just out for fun. You need to be able to navigate, but it's very easy compared to (running) orienteering.
And, to answer the OP, D&W usually run a summer evening series - usually only 2 hours to finish before it gets properly dark.
