Never been there but in the area soon - worth taking the bike? Or anywhere near NYM worth riding?
I love Dalby- it gets a lot of hate (and the first half feels almost all uphill) but it is a quiet and playful track. Although the NyM themselves are also great riding- anything from the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge if the weather is good will give you awesome views and great natural riding.
It's worth a spin if you're in the area for sure. I mean biking is always > not biking, right? It's quite old school, but good fun if you go with the right frame of mind.
Much better natural stuff on the Moors as @lappierelady says, anything around the Rosedale / Blakey area is likely to be fun. You'll generally need to link the good bits together with road or duller tracks though.
*edit* bear in mind parking at Dalby is quite steep at £9.
The natural stuff in the NYM is great if it's been dry or is frozen but a bit of a quagmire if wet. We lived in Rosedale for a couple of years and great loops straight out of the door.
In that time we only went to Dalby Forest a handful of times.
I enjoyed Dalby
The NY Moors a great cycling area. Depending on what you are after good by for England
always keen to pop into Dalby if im in the area!
I was a little disappointed when I did it as part of my coast to coast. Its ok but I wouldn't go out my way to do it. Reminds me of Cannock chase for the most part its easy although there are a few bits where the difficulty increases suddenly and quiet significantly in my opinion.
Plus its £9 to park there and the Cafe was poor compared to any of the other trail centres I have been.
Does anyone have a recent copy of the trail map?
I'm staying in Ebberston next week so might as well try to ride a few of the Dalby trails from the doorstep if I can find a sensible way into the forest to pick up a trail part way round.
I visited last week, had a nice day out- it's very uppy downy which I know some people hate (ie, it's not like say Glentress where the trail sections are all definitely climbs or descents), and the red is really pretty tame... But it's a lovely place to ride and good trails. Particularly enjoyed the black- that big roll into the gully would be horrendous on an xc bike imo- but the climbs are so nasty...
Spent far too long messing around in that section actually, loads of little options and lines.
You can get in from Allerston behind the pub or go from Thornton le dale if you don't mind a bit of a road ride. Pace/ Dalby Bike Barn are in Thornton and I think they have maps, Baldersons is a million times better than the cafe in Dalby too.
